Cathy -- you know I figured out long ago, that folks who seem to have easy/perfect lives often have it harder than the rest of us.  Besides which -- *looking over there* often gives you a really distorted view of what's really going on.

You're so right Callie. When I was in my mid-30s, I envied a coworker/friend more than I'd ever envied anyone. She was pretty and as sweet as could be. She was over the moon happily married and then she got pregnant and quit to be a stay at home mom. It was a time when I wanted to do the same but my ex didn't want to give up the dual incomes. This friend would stop by with her baby and talk about how she was making her own baby food, meeting up for playdates every day, etc. I was so happy for her but feeling sorry for myself. We lost touch for a couple of yrs but I knew she'd had another son. Then one day I caught a read in the paper about a toddler drowning and recognized her name. She'd been cleaning house and had left a 5 gallon paint bucket full of water in the kitchen as she went about mopping her house (huge, 2 story house). The 2 yr. old had woken up from his nap, climbed out of his crib and was investigating the water when he tipped into the bucket and drowned. I honestly couldn't imagine a more horrific tradgedy. Not just the loss of your child, but the guilt too. Crying It brought me up short and made me realize that everyone has a cross to carry - everyone.

Yea for Charlie!!!!  Yea for Shane!!!!  Yea for Sheba!!!!  Yea  for Cora!!!!  I hope Cora's little burst of youth is good for all of you.

Jackie....sorry the fragrance in your office is not a plesant one Ick!

We had a storm last night but I also slept thru it.   We got rain yesterday and we sooooo needed it.

A dear man, or should I say an ornery dear man who served his country well. passed yesterday.  RIP Ray.  Thank you for your service, thank you for being a rock for many of your friends, thank you for the shoulder you lent me in my time of need.  You are loved and will be missed by many.

    RIP Ray and thank you!

I took Shane for a walk and forgot to take a poop bag. Not only did he poop but he did it right when there were a couple of people walking not far away Embarrassed. I won't make that mistake again. He had pooped before we came to work, so I just didn't expect it but I think he might be a frequent pooper kind of guy. Big Smile

    • Gold Top Dog

OK -- we can NEVER have a poopie title again -- I even DREAMT about poop last night LOL

Just for a smile today, this is from the horse forum I frequent. The mini just gave birth to a little filly this morning and the whole family wanted to say "hi"

    • Gold Top Dog

Sorry - it cut off part of the picture. Hopefully this gets the whole family -

    Ditto!

What a great photo, Cathy.  I love the dog looking over the gate, too!  All beautiful animals.  Thanks for sharing it.

Deb, can you beam one of those parfaits over to me, pronto please?  Man, that looks incredibly delicious.  Now I'll be craving that all day!

I'm moving slowly today -- got home very late last night after the David Sedaris show.  We stood in line so I could have my book signed.  I've seen him twice before, but I hadn't "met" him for a signing, so I decided it would be worth the wait.  It was -- he was very funny and chatty, and he wrote something hilarious is my book:  To Tracy - Let's stay home and make something out of concrete together. David Sedaris  Now I have to make sure that book never gets in the bag for the used book store.  I'm glad I'm old fashioned and avoid e-readers.  It would've been odd asking him to sign a Kindle! Wink

Lucky you and yes, well worth the wait!! I don't mind being tired from a fun night like that.

I scheduled Shane for a complimentary day at The Local Bark, a doggie daycare near my office. It's fairly new and has great reviews. He's a great office buddy but I want him to stay socialized and this is the best/safest way I can think of. I explained all about the heart murmur and unless the cardiologist gives me information prohibitting it, I think he'll have fun.

What a sweet picture, Cathy. :)  I think the doggy day care sounds like a great idea for Shane.

I posted on FB but will share my lunacy here too, except no picture.  I'm wearing two distinctly different shoes today.  I really need to pay more attention when getting dressed. lol

I'm getting excited about the Sophia Yin seminar on the 12th.  A friend is going with me and we're leaving the Friday before so we don't have to worry about the traffic in Houston causing us to be late Saturday morning.  It took a long conversation to work out the details.  It shouldn't have been that hard but we were both being all "whatever you want to do; no, whatever you want to do" which made it hard to come to a decision. lol

    RIP, Ray.

ETA, Tracy that personalized autograph is hilarious. lol  Glad you enjoyed yourself even if you're dragging today from your late night.

Yup - it's a good kind of tired, so no regrets!

Jackie, your shoe situation reminded me of something a coworker did years ago.  Our office was a very long walk from where we had to park, so most women wore sneakers and carried their dress shoes in their bags/briefcases.  One morning, a coworker a few cubicles down from mine suddenly wailed, "Oh no!"  Several of us rushed over to her cubicle, and there she was, holding one brown shoe and one blue shoe.  She got ready for work with minimal light in her room, to avoid waking her husband, who worked nights.  She grabbed two mis-matched shoes from her closet and tossed them in her bag.  What made it funnier was that they weren't even the same style.  Both were pumps, but one had a higher heel than the other, and one had a buckle thing on the toe area.  Apparently, she was so groggy that she didn't even FEEL the difference, nevermind SEE the different colors!  Needless to say, she kept her sneakers on that day!

I've made the same shoe error, well actually it was boots. I never turn the light on in our closet and just grabbed a right and left. I didn't notice until I got to work and was walking down the hall that they were different. One had a squarish toe and the other more pointy. I didn't have any choice but to try to lay low for the day. Embarrassed

Despite living in NH and hiking fairly often, I'm pretty darn scared of bears.

Last year I went camping along the Kancamagus at a place I've been going to for years.  A bear came into our site and tried to take off with my sister's soft cooler of beer.  Henry was trying to GET the bear, meanwhile Gracie was non-plussed and went back to sleep.  I had to scare it off by banging dog dishes together.  They always seem bigger at night in the dark w/a flashlight and no solid building to protect you. ;P

Yes, I'm feeling better, thanks for asking Tina.  I ended up sleeping about 7 hours today, so between yesterday and the 5.5 mile Memorial Walk for Chief Maloney the day before, I guess my body just needed a lot of rest.  Feels weird sleeping the day away and the dogs not begging to go out, etc. I'm sure my friend must have been letting them out, but I've been comatose for hours now!

Then again it's raining, and 3 out of 5 dogs here are Dobermans.

There is a suspiously large, funky looking pile of poop in my yard between the crabapple tree and my back door.  I'm seriously hoping one of the dogs is responsible for it.  Otherwise....ewwwww!

More taters got planted yesterday ahead of the nice soaking rain......

    Is it bedtime yet?

Cathy, Shane is gorgeous!  And he's such a lucky boy!

Poor DS #1 has been given the impossible task (by his MIL) to take the little peanut (18 mo. old) shopping for a dress "appropriate" for a funeral, something dark, plain and sort of formal.  I told him "good luck with that one" ... I don't think the designers of baby clothes design with funeral attendance in mind.  Everything for a baby girl is light and summery, and lacy or flowery.  It's probably going to be hot in church anyway - I think I'd just put her in shorts and a tank top.
