Tuesday Chattin' Time

    Tuesday Chattin' Time

OK so my boss is really pushing it.  I was told to be here by 5:30 am this morning for a meeting - not that unheard of, but its about 1/2 hour earlier than I normally get here.  That means I woke up at 3:50 am, left my house by 4:45 am, walked 4 blocks in Detroit in the dark and get to the office only to have him waltz in at 7:00 saying "sorry I am late, I am going to go work out now (there's a gym in the building) and will be back in an hour."

I normally like him but lately he is getting on my very last straw.  I cannot wait to go on vacation in a couple of weeks.  If it wasn't for Words with Friends I would leave my iphone at home and not check email...that would get him good!

Oh well, its a job, a a really good job, and as my granny always said, this too shall pass.

Cathy - I just read about the house.  I am so sorry (((HUGS)))

    Have a good day everyone!

Wow!  What a way to start a day.  Talk about the wrong foot.

I think I've finally gotten myself out of the funk.  Now to STAY out of it!

Wishing everyone a really good day today.

I was imagining, what if it was more than just you and him supposed to be at that meeting.  Who sets a 5:30am meeting, anyway?  Conference call, sure, face-to-face meeting??

    I don't know what happened w/Cathy's house, but I hope it's resolvable...

I am dealing with trying to find a vendor to provide food at our Obedience show to feed our judges & workers and also sell to the crowd.  I had 2 people working on this, with one pretty much settled that she wanted last year's guy back again.  He's the kind of dude you imagine is someone's grandpa who makes a sandwich for you, puts chips on your plate, and gives you a soda.    For $5.  And he touches his face & nose, and the money, with the same bare hands that he touches food with.  I raised this as an issue and wanted to find someone different.  Found a sausage/hotdog/steak'n'cheese guy who will do it as a favor to the club.  More expensive, but it's meat, and he has a great reputation.  (Voted Best Outdoor Eats in the city where he normally operates.)  I'm getting flack that "I won't eat that greasy crap.  Our judges are older and they won't want to eat that, either"  We can't cater b/c we need someone to sell to  the competitors & we can't estimate who will want to buy how much food.  They haven't found any other food vendor in 3 months, and they want to settle back w/the old guy and just approach him about his cleanliness habits.  Of all the things to be worried about this show, the food vendor feeding our workers & competitors shouldn't be a big deal, but it's becoming one.  Ugh.  Am I crazy?

    What do you mean?

That sucks Paige.  Could you say that people complained about him last year?

I did.  Their solution was "we can talk to him about it"  It could be as simple as that, except this has become a power play.

Sending you strength to bite your tongue and not kill your boss, Lisa.

Cathy, I'm sorry it seems you won't be getting the house.

Our power went out at the office yesterday, so I got to leave a little early, but now must catch up  (if only my computer will cooperate).

Buddy has a vet appt. this morning for vaccines. He's also been coughing a little more than usual, and I know it means his heart is probably more enlarged than it was six months ago, so I'm a bit anxious to learn what the vet can tell me. It's funny how much he is attached to me and, I'll admit, how much I am to him in the year he's been with me.

Paige, I meant that if I were to show up I'd be darned sure that I brought my OWN food if this guy is as unhygenic as it sounds.

I am normally here at 6:00 anyway but its his way of asserting his authority over me whenever he feels I have obtained a little too much autonomy.  Normally I do my projects, have my meetings, etc. and he barely glances at my work; however, lately he's bored so he has been interjecting himself in my projects and basically butting in where he doesn't belong and making an idiot out of himself in meetings.

I have a hard time holding back my emotions, including the ones that show severe annoyance and he is trying to make a power play to remind me who is the boss.  I am literally doing everything I can to not tell him to shove it.  I can't stand him for one more second.  Every minute he is making me more and more furious.

Paige, i'd be with Glenda if I saw that old guy touching everything with his dirty hands. If I had expected to buy food there, I'd leave and buy food elsewhere, or starve. But, I also left a place and drove 5 minutes to Walmart for a bathroom rather than use a port o potty.

Lisa, your boss seems to like to play his power card. Not much you can do about people like that and that's what's so frustrating. :(

Paige, your post brought back horrible memories of my days as secretary for our club's hunt test events.  What made it worse for our events, was the fact that our events were often held many many miles from any form of civilization on ranches with bad roads.  Vendors had to be self sufficient and willing to travel far, for an unknown quantity of sales.  We tried having club members make sack lunches a few times but that wasn't all that successful.  I found the judges were the least likely to complain about whatever food they were served and the club members the biggest whiners.

It's a beautiful cool morning here and despite the tons of work I need to tackle I'm in a great mood. :)

Don't tell Twister but I forgot his birthday was the 15th.  He turned 12 years old.  I never thought I'd own a little dog and never dreamed I would become so incredibly attached to any dog.

Tina, I hope Buddy's check up goes ok and you've got many more years with your cuddle Buddy.

Oh, bless your soul for saying that!  This is my first club, I was asked to step up as Show Chair in February, our show is Labor Day weekend which makes finding a vendor willing to come for, as you said, "unknown quantity of sales" a terrible challenge.  The vendor I found is only doing it as a favor to his friend.  There are other vendors who do this type of "make up a sandwich on the spot so it doesn't get soggy" thing, and they are clean/sanitary, but are not interested in coming to our show (Obed folks are apparently unpredictable on food purchases) or are not available.  I got some complaints about the man touching his face/nose last year.  I witnessed it myself and was turned off such that I could not imagine eating anything that he prepared at home/on-site with mayonaise (chicken salad)  I made sure to get something "cooked" - that was a grilled cheese he cooked on his Foreman Grill.  I know I'm not the only one who was turned off, but maybe I'm overblowing it.  The years before that we had platters of meat and our workers made their own sandwiches, we did not offer food for sale to the competitors that I can remember.

On the positive side I think, "look, we get to feed our workers a sanitary meal from a guy w/a great reputation for this type of food."  Your comment above, though, Jackie, that judges are the least likely to complain, is actually a big relief.    Plenty of people bring their own food out of dietary concerns, or simple economics.  I really hope this turns out ok for him and us.

Jen, I'm sort of the same girl.  I will use a port-o-potty but if it's gross, I will drive to Walmart!  Sometimes I cannot get over my need for moderate/decent sanitation.  I'm not prissy - I go camping where there's no flushing toilets & go days w/out showering (although I'm in the river and do wash my face b/c I'm vain and don't want to get zits. lol)

handing you the Corporate Career-Preserving 2x4.... it gives the impression you want, without bruising your own reputation.

I don't know that this is the same, but my friend refers to "seagull management" -you're doing your own thing, work is going smoothly, objectives are met, progress is made, the boss is rarely there.  Then he/she comes in, tells everyone they're doing something wrong (craps all over them) then flies out.

I have Vodka and the 2 x 4 on standby for anyone who needs it this morning.
