Collar or Harness?

    Collar or Harness?

I just bought a Harness from a online store.  I have tried to put it on to my little 2 year old doggie.  He looks feel pretty comfortable with it but how come I don't see a lot of people using harnesses on the street?   I used to use collar too but .. the price from that store was just too good to resist, only $3.99.  Anyway, please let me know the pros and cons.  Thanks for replying.

when we leash walk Molly I put a harness on her - she hates it but such is life.
I always used harnesses...I find it easier to walk the dog with them on. Molly dislikes her enough so when she is wearing it she walks like a charm

I don't walk tonka on a harness because I used to let them pull sleds and wagons so he wants to pull when in harness, I do use one for Ruffian now because of her age she has no interest in pulling now, and I will sortly be using one for Tonka too I feel the pull is leaving him as well. Ahh adjusting to old dogs, I have never lived with old dogs before so it is all new too me, and when puppy time comes around again it will be all new too, LOL.

When I put the collar on my dog, he doesn't move at all.  I dunno why :(
He has no problem with the harness.

I use a martingale collar on Gracie. I've never been a big fan of harnesses, but I do see a lot of people that use them.

A harness is great because it doesnt strain the dogs neck. But if you have a puller the harness will work against you because it will make it easier for your dog to drag you around.

    I have both for Lizzie

Lizzie, I agree with the point you made on the dogs neck.  I'll keep putting the harnesses on my Westie.

How timely... I've been using no-pull harnesses with Russell since he was a few months old (so, about a year now). I really like the extra control of the harness and not having something around my dog's neck. But now that his coat has gotten thick, the harness started causing horrible matts around his armpits where the harness straps go. It got unmanageable so this past weekend we switched back to a flat collar. I worried he wouldn't adjust well, and also that he'd go back to pulling. But he's been just fine with it.

I only use Harness, she use to wear alot of harness vest until she grew too big and I got the regular harness.  I don't like her wearing collars, I felt that it's uncomfortable for her.

For small dogs, I think a harness is the safest option. I've only ever used a harness for my Shih Tzu. For big dogs, as Lizzie Collie said, it will only make it easier for them to pull you. So personally, I think harnesses for small dogs and collars for big dogs (with exceptions of course, one being the "easy walk" harness for pullers). [;)]

My Buster has a slipped disc in his neck so I have to use a harness and Max is just easier to control with the harness.  I love them!
