When you first get your pup, do you feed it the same food you would for a grown dog? Like the food in those bags, or do you have to buy something special?

You should ask what the breeder was feeding the dog, how much and how often and stick with that.  Or, what the shelter or foster home was feeding.

If that's not possible, then the answer is, some dog foods have puppy stage foods and some have all stage foods.  For example, Innova kibble is for all stages of life, puppy on up.  Purina is not, it has a puppy chow.

I don't know what type of dog you have, but if it is a large breed dog, then it's important to feed it a high kcal puppy food, or it will be starving all the time as it grows.

if it is a large breed puppy, then you defnitely want to get a puppy food formulated for large breed puppies. most other puppies can do alright on an all stages food. whatever you decide to try make sure it is a high quality food.
