    Update on Bruno

Some of you know the story about Bruno. He belonged to a friend killed the cat and a couple tiny kittens. I still think that he was just playing and never meant to kill. He is a very sweet, affectionate dog and loves children and people. The husband was going to have him put to sleep. He had an appointment already and I left my work and brought him to the house. I did not have the finances to get him all checked out or anything since we had an emergency with one of our dogs that we had just paid for. But I at least was able to keep him here and knew he was alive. My friend told us that she had called a couple shelters and they were full. My 15 year old daughter called over 20 places, talked to people, got more numbers and eventually got in contact with a golden retriever rescue. They met us in town today just to take a look but ended up taking him. We cried. I had to sign a paper of surrender with the knowledge that we would never see him again. I even wonder if I should have checked out the rescue before handing him over. I worry so easily about everything. They have a website: [linkhttp://www.grrh.org]www.grrh.org[/link]. I will be heartbroken if I ever find out that this is a bad place. I would never forgive myself. I hope to see his face on there soon.
I did not have any money to donate but I called my "friend" and left a message to get with me and donate the money for putting him down to this rescue.
I hope I have done the right thing. I am pround of my daughter for doing all the work while I was at work each day and setting up this meeting this morning.
We still have DeeDee, the dachshund female( some of you know of her story). She turned 6 years old on the 13th. She is a different dog. Outgoing and so loveable. Not shy anymore.
    Thanks for listening.

I think you did the right thing.  I give you a lot of credit for stepping in and saving this dog's life.  I applaud you.

I do think that you should have researched the rescue.  I am no expert (at all), but I looked at the website, and they seem to have an extensive application (I have applied to adopt dogs before, and Im pretty sure that they ask for all of the same things that those rescues did), they seem to be pretty involved in the community, and that they have had a lot of successful adoptions.

They do home visits, require that you return the dog to them if you can no longer keep it, etc.

I think it was best to go through a breed specific rescue, as they are very knowledgeable about the breed.

I think you should give yourself a pat on the back instead of kicking yourself.
