Westminster tonight

    Westminster tonight

I always enjoy watching.  We usually record it so we can fast forward through the commercials.  I read an article that Pedigree is no longer the sponsor.  Supposedly people were sending negative feedback about those sad adoption ads and they're going with a more upbeat type ad.  I have no idea if there is even a kernel of truth in that.

I love watching the dogs and the handlers strut their stuff.

     I have the recording set!

Our paper said that Pedigree is still a sponsor but will run ads showing people having fun with dogs instead of dogs in shelters.  It was interesting because apparently those ads were very beneficial and adoptions rose after they showed during Westminster. shrugs those sad ones never got to me like the ones that ASPCA show with the sad music, i felt like the pedigree ones were showing that great dogs come from shelters

sorry totally not going back to fix typos!

No they fired Pedigree; Purina is the sponsor this year. They tried to work w/ Pedigree the past few years to soften the ads, but nothing happened, so they dropped Pedigree - who of course say they are stunned!

I love watching it every year.  Tonight it starts on USA for one hour then moves to CNBC.  Tomorrow night the whole program is on USA.

You can watch it online as well, here:

That's how we watch just about everything, especially long broadcasts like this!  We enjoy seeing all the dogs, especially the unusual breeds that you don't get to see "in real life" very often, if ever.  DH can do a really good imitation of the announcer with the serious voice:  "This is Springer Spaniel, number 42 . . ."  Cracks me up.

Watching the Westiminster always reminds me of one of my favorite comedy movies, "Best in Show."  So funny!

Last night when the Plott was shown, DH said "it's Belle!!"  lol   I didn't stay awake for the herding and non sporting.  We'll have to watch that early this evening to catch up.

We recorded it last night and tonight.  I just wanted the hounds though last night and will probably see the rest tonight.  I have always loved watching it even before we had Charlie.  So many squishy faces!

I will have to say that I am in love with Black and Tan Coonhounds.  They are so cute and adorable and so sweet looking.  That is my dream dog.

     Big Smile

I loved the Plott and whenever I see them I wonder about B's heritage - they are absolutely the darkest brindle out there!  That dog's dad was called Monday and just a stunning dog!

that is so weird about Pedigree - I am confident that the article I read stated they had made happier commercials that would be aired, shrugs

eta Lisa I <3 the coon hounds - all of them Big Smile

Well, considering the number of Purina One commercials after Westminster touting how the winners were fed their food, I guess its natural.

I liked the focus Pedigree put on the shelter dogs, esp since they granted my rescue as Breed Rescue of the Year once and gave them a check for a few thousand dollars.  Putting their money behind what their ads were saying, I appreciated.  But I've never been all that big on the politics of dog shows. lol

Indeed... she's got competition w/the Irish Setter, and that (I'm sorry, ugly) Peke... I'm still rooting for our girl, though!

I love how they always make a big deal about how the BIS judge is sequestered, like she doesn't know what dogs she's looking at, lol.  Even I recognize half of them and I'm not even into AKC conformation.

Jimmy needs to let that GSD pull out in front of him!  He (the dog) can move so let him go!

Just watched the Bearded Collies on the website.  One of the Beardies shown in Westminster this year is from the same breeder that Logan comes from!  Amazing dog! Eeakkk, I am so excited, just a couple days away and he will be here.  That Beardie is only a sneak peak to the type of dog that will be living with me soon.
