    Was I too mean?

I was at the park with Panda yesterday and I stopped at the waterfountain to get Panda some water. Well there were these three kids that kept making faces at Panda. I had Panda's leash rolled around my hand many times to where he could only take about 3 steps. Well I told them to stop and they told me to shut up, they were like 8-11. Then they started throwing their sticks at Panda. Panda barked and I told them to stop or I was going to let Panda go. The mother simply told them to go back over there but that was all, and I told her too,

    "Lady, call your kids!"

She would only call them once every 2 minutes and just let them be, so then they started running past Panda. Panda tried to chase but stopped as he was limited to the few steps. Well, finally as one of the kids runs by, I let some of the leash go and Panda chases until his leash doesn't let him, the kid was in no harm and Panda likes kids, but the kid started crying and the lady was mad at me. I told her to tell her kids not to bother my dog.

Crying I don't think I should have done that.

Plllbbbttt on those nasty kids!  Panda "IS YOUR KID" and you should defend your baby.  Jerky kids!  I would have told those kids off too.

Errrr.... that would make me so upset. It's the kids own falt for crying and the mother should have gotten mad at the kid for bothing your dog, not you. I'm never brave enough to tell someone what I really think but I would have probly done the same in that instant.

    I've almost been there.
I no longer live on a corner lot, lot's of fence, but kids sometimes would tease my dog.
I so wanted to open the gate and tell them to bang on the fence, or whatever they did, ...now.

i don't think you're in the wrong since you know the kid wasn't in any harm's way - hopefully you taught them a lesson, because the next time they throw sticks at a dog, that dog might NOT be leashed (who lets their kids do this? seriously!) Some people...[:@]

What the heck kind of mother sits and allows her kids to throw sticks at a dog anyways.  How dare her get mad at you!  Lazy witch should have come and got her brats when you yelled to her in the first place.  Parents like that make me sick.[:@

Well, for one thing that "mom" would of heard it from me if anyone was throwing sticks or anything else at my dog.  There would of been hell to pay.  Last winter some kids thru snowballs hard at Willow for no reason and I called the police on them.

I don't really think you did anything wrong in the case of your dogs because they really weren't a threat, the kid just thought the dog was.  I find that funny that the kid would aggravate the dog and then be all scared.  Got what he deserved as far as I'm concerned.

But, I do want to say that I would of never encouraged Willow to do something like that or would want to give the impression to people that that was the ideal thing to do.  That would of been especially inappropriate no matter how bad the kids were acting if the dog had been at all aggressive.

You tottally did the right thing, hopefully next time they wont be so keen to throw sticks at a poor dog. I have never had that problem, when i take Sam to the park or walk him to the shops he gets lots of positive attention, people, and kids of all ages want to pet him. I guess im lucky in that aspect!
