    I really want a 2nd dog but...

i really want a 2nd dog but i don't know how my dog will act with another dog in the house. i really want one because my dream is to compete in dog shows so i need another because well i don't honestly know why but everytime i try to talk to my parents about it they just say that we can't get another dog because my dog Dixie would get really jealous and one dog is enough and why can't youo just be happy with the one you have. i am happy with him buut he isn't even close to the breed standard for Yorkies cause he is very big for a Yorkie and has pretty short hair cause my mom thinks that male Yorkies should have all of the bows and long hair and stuff. i wouldn't be worried about getting another that much if it wasn't for me having to convince my parents and i would save up my own money and pay for the dog but since i don't get allowance it is very hard to save up money. i am helping my mom babysit next week but i won't get much money from that only half so i don't know hwo much that will be so any advice on how to convince my parents and a way to earn some money?

Firstly, if you don't have a regular source of income, you probably shouldn't get a dog that you'd be solely responsible for.  I am not sure how old you are, but also consider if in the next few yrs. you'd be going to college or something, you may not be able to take the dog with you... so a second dog that is only yours again could be a problem.

As far as showing a dog that is not the breed standard, there are some shows for mutts and others for purebreds who are not the standard or are neutered or spayed.  I just found out about one they will be having around here.

Perhaps you could go to obedience class with your current dog or join other activities and maybe a meetup group so you could do things with the dog you have!

If your looking for a show quality yorkie your going to pay over $2000 just for a puppy that might make it into the ring. I would just take your current dog into obedience classes and learn the basics with that dog so you have an idea of what you'll get into. Once your there you can meet with other trainers and show people who can help guide you where you should
