    Condo and a dog

Before purchasing a puppy, I have been doing a lot of research, and now I have 1 last question left.
I live in a condo, and the half of the backyard is cement, the other half is a wooden deck, no ground, outside of the condo there is a thing (kinda like a park) where you can take your dog out for it to go to the bathroom, etc. Now my question is, if I am to house train this puppy, will I have to take it outside there everytime? And when it grows up will I always have to take it out there?

If you have no grass in your yard I would say yes to the park area. I would assume they dog would rather go to the bathroom on grass and not cement. Especially if it wee's on cement it would run onto the dogs foot and then the dog would smell like urine.

You can train your dog to go on command no matter where he is, so then you don't have to worry about him only wanting to go on cement forever or something like that.

Also, you might want to look into the "dog toilet." I don't know what it is really called, but it's a square container of grassy material with a drain down to a pan that you can clean out.  So the dog learns to go on his spot,a nd you just have to rinse out the urine from the pan below and pick up poop (like you would anyway).  Keeps your back deck clean.

I hope you are not getting confused.... house train I would assume is the same as house break, meaning he goes outside all the time.  I guess it depends on the dog.... We live in NYC now, but my dog is used to living in the country, so he will go on nothing but grass.  If your dog is trained to go on cement, then he probably will, it just depends on the dog.

Oh, I need Reading Comprehension 101. I get it now. [&:]  He wants to know if he'll have to take his dog to the *park* every time.

My answer still stands, though. [:D]

If you get a small dog, you can try to litter box train him/her, but again, if you don't want the dog to use a litter box in the new house you eventually may have, then you should do both indoor and outdoor training.

All right guys, thanks! I will take the puppy outside every hour, and after play etc, etc... I will look into the "dog-toilet" thing though...
