OK, Sinbad is giving me the stare-down because he thinks it's 5 pm/dinner time!?!?!? It's not even 3:30! He got an early walk so he thinks an early supper is in order.
Sinbad you have a friend in Bugsy! He has been bugging me since 2:30 (he usually eats at 4-4:30 if someone is here) I caved and fed him at 3:40 and he fell asleep immediately afterward. Poor starving dog!

If we come from work early for some reason, Sam also thinks it's early dinner for him.  Little does he know LOL

Re the sinus flush bottles - I just used boiled water.  I mean, its just to kill anything and not necessarily about impurities in the water so I'm OK boiling it (vs distilled water).  Although I just started boiling, I used to use tap water. And I microwave sterilize the bottle sometimes.... although I probably don't replace it on the proper schedule.

(Jewlieee)  wow what a change from Florida to Alaska.  My Daughter and Granddaughter live there also, they have been there about 4 years now.  They love it, which I will never understand!

Auburn, I am still in MI. I was actually kidding about going from FL to alaska because we have had really warm weather for us this winter and now we have gone down to the single digits :) I could never imagine living any further north than where I do!

I must have missed the netti pot infection discussion. What was that about? I use it when i get a cold or whatever but actually have better luck with damp/hot washcloths on my face for 15 mins a few times per day. That makes the biggest difference for me. It is something I read on some sinus doc's website and decided to try it,

Paige, I stopped using my neti pot too...

I've got one -- but the one time I tried it, it actually gave me almost a panic attack.  I get claustrophobic REAL easy -- and it made me feel like I was drowning.  I just can't do it.   Very few things in this life I can't steel myself to do -- but that IS one of them.  Embarrassed

Callie, I've had a cough for over a month now. I am sooooo tired of coughing!

All the meds I've had to take has riled up the colitis.  Can I just say that there are certain things that do NOT go with coughing?

for whatever it's worth - this stuff ROCKS as a cough syrup: Nectadyn - no menthol in it (that totally wrecks my stomach) - good-tasting, but works SO fast.

I installed a new shower head today, and it works well (and no leaks!). I even remembered to get the teflon tape stuff (and there was some in the shower head packaging. That's all the excitement from here. Oh, and more snow is on the way. Given how spoiled we've been so far, we're due.

It finally started raining, but so far it's not quite the "storm of the century" they were predicting ... unless maybe it gets a lot worse tonight and tomorrow.

On last night's news I heard that the Schwan's distribution center in Woodland is closing and I'm sure that's the one that also services Davis since it's only about 8 miles away.  The driver that came today was from Chico which is a loooong way to come and I think the one in Rocklin (also quite a drive) is still open. If I wind up losing Schwan's, at least there's still Trader Joe's. It looks like they have a lot of the same type of stuff I get from Schwans's - just their own brand and cheaper.  It's just so nice to have someone bring it to the door, especially in lousy weather.

    lol!

I'll have to look into that cough syrup. For me the coughing has been because of the chest congestion.

I believe there is no evidence of Neti pots working, and the brain eating amoeba stuff of recent has me shying away from It. The packaging, at least on the bottle thing, says not to use it if you have ear congestion. I have constant ear congestion, this can't use it.

My evidence is my experience :)

Julie, here is one link, NPR also has a story http://articles.latimes.com/2011/dec/20/news/la-heb-neti-pot-amoeba-20111220

Basically, two people in ... louisiana? ... used tap water and forced amoebas up their sinuses which caused it to get into the brain.  At least, that's the story so far.  I used to use regular tap water -- we have our own water company in our township and it's really good -- but just because a brain-eating amoeba would be a sorry way to go, I now use boiled water that I cool down.  Even if it's not as "pure" as distilled water since there would still be any metals or whatever in the water, that should kill any bacteria!

Nicole, I agree that two cases don't constitute a logical reason to stop using the neti pot.  The articles I read also mentioned that not all tap water is chlorinated equally and there's also the possibility that the pots weren't kept clean and dry between uses.
