    Happy Anniversary, Deb!

I spent half of today at a funeral.  My step-sister's FIL was a retired police officer and former service man who lost his battle with brain cancer.  I started bawling as they removed the drape from his coffin as he was passing out of the church and they placed an American flag on top... Then to walk out of the church behind the coffin and to have the police men and women lining the stairs, then protecting our entire funeral procession to the mausoleum was just incredible.  We went past the police station where they had all the horses out, and civilian pedestrians stood in stiff salute to this public servant.  I watched his wife hold it together as the flag was silently wrapped and passed to her, and then the tears came as the Marine handed her the flag and expressed the appreciation for her husband's service.

My mom finally got a good cry out at this service, since she's had to hold everything together since her own mom's passing a few weeks ago.  My sister's husband gave the best eulogy I've ever heard.

Cancer really sucks.  One of our students' dogs has been diagnosed with lymphoma.  I love her dog and am so bummed out.

Status update from a friend on fb:

While at work today one of the dogs tore into a bin of gift paper & bags. Tonight while snowshoeing Drake pooped "Happy Birthday confetti" and blue glitter. Guilty party found.
