Friday fun chat

Damnit! I had a nice long reply, and I just accidentally got rid of it.

After a nice leisurely morning, I'm heading into hectic Friday. I have to leave for work around 2:30. I work from 3:30-5:00. Then I have to head to my friend's house, hopefully getting there around 6. There, my mom is supposed to meet me with Callie and Luke, transfer them to my car, so I can take them to fly ball. My friend who helps us in class, but has no dog, gets off work at 6, and takes 7-10 minutes to get home. Callie's class starts at 7, and  the place is 45 minutes from my friend's house. I ordered Luke a new car harness (a ruff rider), because I decided I was happier with him in a harness than in a plastic crate. It says it  is out  for delivery, but it has not arrived yet. If I want him to wear it, it needs to get here before I leave for work, because my mom will never figure it out.  I can send him in his crate, but I have a feeling my mom won't take him in his crate. The current harness, the pet buckle, fits both dogs, but I do not have time to adjust it from Luke, then move him to the crate in my car, and make it bigger for Callie. I think I'll just put the harness on her, and leave him in his small car crate. Or, I have an airline bag type thing for him, which I would be happier with him riding in the car in. I can leave him in that if the harness doesn't show up in the next 30 minutes.

And, my niece will be 1 tomorrow, and we are supposed to have her birthday party. She has been kind of sick all week, but with no fever. Today of course, she has a fever. My mom had to run up there, an hour away, to take her to the doctor at 2. My mom also wants to wait until tomorrow morning to cook anything. Ummm... no. We're making; chicken, hot dogs, macaroni casserole, and baked ziti, oh, and chicken nuggets. The macaroni and ziti can be made tonight and reheated. She says she'll be up at 7. We probably need to leave between 10-11, because the party is at a place an hour away, we need to go in at 12 to set up, and we need to pick up sodas on the way. I'm not waiting till 7 AM to start cooking if the party is happening tonight. Secondly, I'm not letting my mom make some of the stuff. She is not making the ziti, and she is not making the macaroni. She is absolutely not  making the macaroni. She does not believe me that it does not take milk. This is odd, because she can't even have milk. Anyway, other people make this item, it gets devoured. My mom makes it, she has 3/4 of the pan left over. She keeps saying you need the milk, because you need liquid. You get the liquid by not draining the corn. I have made it probably more than her, and when I make it, it gets scarfed up. I swear my mom can't taste what she cooks, or it's off (she had cancer a few years ago, maybe from that treatment). She does not believe, or I suspect more so, she pretends that things she makes actually taste good, when they truly are not good, and she ends up throwing out most of what she makes. Yeah, but I'll  probably just tell her I feel like making them now so we don't feel really rushed in the morning, and have time to pick up anything if we might have forgotten it, and figure out how to pack it in the cars. Oh, and my friend is also awesome b/c I packed her car last night with stuff that needs to be brought up, but doesn't matter if it isn't there right away when we're  setting up. How many friends would let you pack their trunks full of stuff, and would, despite being afraid of dogs (she's no longer terrified), come to your dog's class? She has even been the handler for one of the dogs in Luke's class before. Usually the daughter, who is in college handles that dog, but sometimes she has been away, so the mother just brings her. In that case, my friend handles the dog.

Yup.  We've been very lucky.  Tonka was a marathon sleeper -- often staying in bed for a little while after both DH and I got up, especially on weekdays when our alarms went off at insanely early times.  He'd doze until we encouraged him to get up and have breakfast!

When we got Ruby and saw how much more energetic she was than Tonka, I was worried she'd be the type of dog who wakes early, doing some kind of antics to get us out of bed.  She does hop out of bed as soon as DH gets up (she's glued to him), but on weekends, that might not be until 8AM or so (that's sleeping in, compared to the 5AM weekday alarm).  She's ready to go potty and eat, but she won't stir before we do.  I cannot say enough how happy this makes me!  Big Smile

Rascal is a late sleeper too, and I LOVE IT. Sometimes he even growls at the alarm clock. You tell 'em, dog, you tell 'em...!

Jen - re: the Macaroni Mayhem. Here is my suggestion: "Hey, Mom, I know you have a great macaroni recipe you were thinking of making, but I just read about this brand new recipe that I think would be really great. Could we try it? Maybe you could help me make it?"

Neither of my eye doctors use the air puff method to check eye pressure.  They have a little instrument that touches the eye and measures the pressure. They put drops in first and they must numb the eye so you don't feel the touch. I never liked that little puff of air or really the anticipation of the puff of air. For Riley the drops might be as traumatic as the air puff.  Maybe she won't panic since she was so good last time.  Which reminds me that I had appointments early this month with both eye doctors but both were rescheduled by the doctors.  Annoyed since I want to get them over with.  I still have a slight issue with the eye that had surgery but I've gotten used to it, sort of.  Have fun at dinner, Lisa and have a drink on me. :)

Maybe if I didn't wake up so early my dogs wouldn't either. lol

Doug, I'm sorry your wife and her siblings are dealing with that issue.  It's never easy.  Don't be ashamed of the standing water.  Seems most of the country is having oddly warm weather.  They don't blame you, I'm sure. lol

Rascal, you're a dog after my own heart!  I've been known to groan at the alarm clock when it goes off, but GROWLING is what I really feel like doing.  It doesn't matter how early or late I've gone to bed; I always feel like I'm in a coma when it goes off, and I have to push "snooze" at least twice.

My mother was forced to retire when her company closed.  She went back to work part-time after a couple years, but she said the two best things about not working were not using an alarm clock to wake up and not wearing pantyhose!

    • Gold Top Dog
The only GOOD use for pantyhose is tying someone up. And even then...better to use stockings.

Tina - the exterior decorations will likely come down this weekend cos today is Epiphany (12th night?  In some churches it 's when the Magii supposedly gave their gifts to the Christ Child).  My husband HATES that everyone puts stuff up so early and wants it immediately down.  He never lets me take anything down til after 12th Night.  (Makes me crazy -- I'm ready for it to go away the day after Christmas!!)

Can we turn the heat down please?  I've been sweating (sorry -- not even perspiring -- freaking SWEAT) at my desk all week.  I don't breathe heated air well -- give me cold air please?  My northern relations are complaining about the "bitter cold" -- when I lived up north, I never minded the cold -- JUST the danged snow.  cold?  Put on another sweater.  Snow?  ewww = must hibernate

In warmer climates, maybe.  Here in the tundra it is not uncommon for decorations, lights, etc. to stay up outside until March or April.  Some of my neighbors even leave the lights on their eaves year-round. Looks real classy.

I agree - real classy!  It's about that bad here -- but typically the rain is what keeps people from taking outdoor decorations down.  If people insist on waiting until a reasonably dry day (i.e., light mist versus real rain), it can be a while before they drag out the ladders.  Actually, we had a couple dry days this week, so people could've taken care of it if they were willing to work in the dark (or if they're home during the day).

We avoid this dilemma entirely.  As DH said to a neighbor who was grumbling on a ladder last weekend:  "If you don't put the lights up, you don't have to take any down."  We hang a wreath on the door.  That's it.  Easy!

    • Gold Top Dog
I'm with your dh on the light thing! I have never and will never put exterior lights up. For one, i dont want to take them down when its 30 below and two, it seems like such a waste of electricity that I wouldn't be able to stand it.

My eye doc does the pressure thing too. I don't like any of it but the pressure thing is the least of the evils.

Where did today go? I blinked and missed it somehow.

Our weather has been awesome lately. It has been 35+ degrees with sun which is just wonderful for jan weather. Today it was 40ish. I would love it if this lasted all the way till spring then warmed up for good. Snow is so over rated.
    • Gold Top Dog

We had 42 degrees today and after Tues and Wed, felt almost like summer.

So, today I did returns at two different offices.  The boss was actually there when I arrived so I got my questions answered, the claim filed for the gold guarantee, and then did the unexpected return......then went to MY office and did a bunch of stuff and an expected return.

Gotta say, it's cool being back at Walmart and all the folks who stop in to say hi.  Guess I was missed.  It's nice to be loved! Surprise

I am frantic just reading your schedule for the next 36 hours LOL

I live for frantic schedules. Things get too slow, and I get worried that I should be doing something.

The pastas are assembled and sitting in my car to be baked tomorrow.

Courtney, the macaroni is not at all new, it's just a difference of opinion, or really, it's that I am right, and she is wrong. I looked it up to be sure. I got away with assembling the pastas tonight, so it is safe, and made how I like it.  Now they're out in my car, because we don't actually have room in the fridge to store them. I have never left my keys on the rack with all the others, so when she wants them out, she has to get me to get my car keys. I just told her what was somewhat true, that I was worried about the time tomorrow morning. She says she'll get up at 7, but we already know we need to pick things up on the way there. We'd have to leave not long after 10.  3 hours to make the chicken, assemble and bake both pastas, the macaroni takes an hour to bake, the ziti, which is now rotini, takes 30 minutes, and we have 2 pans of each,  plus bake some chicken nuggets, pack it in the cars... that's tight for 3 hours. I am fairly certain, because we didn't make a list of what we needed, we probably forgot something. Maybe not though. Again, I do well in this state, and I tend to remember all the little things like a knife for the cake, and serving spoons.

I made it to my friend's house at about 5 after 6, she got there 10 after or so. The GPS tricked us initially, and said it would take 35 minutes. We got there at 6:59. Excellent timing there. I don't think I ever ate dinner, unless you were to count the donut I had on the way home. Oh well, I'm going to eat a lot tomorrow.
