Monday moaning

I think I've mentioned that we have a few squirrels that visit our bird feeder. I love them as much as I love the birds and I'm kind of happy that even though it's "squirrel proof" they can still use it. It did make me wonder if there aren't actual squirrel feeders though or if that  would even be a good idea. Anyone know?

Its a great idea Jen.  Good luck Paige.  I know how difficult this can be, firsthand.

Its just Monday and I say gross.

Can I honestly say how excited and happy that I am NOT to be hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas at my house.  I am usually full of stress this time of year knowing I will have a houseful of people that I really don't even like (sans my Mother, daughter and grandkids).  I feel so FREE!

We are going to Louisiana casino for Thanksgiving; and Vegas for christmas!  Air tickets, hotel all set.  Cirque del Soleil tickets secured.  Helcopter tour of the Grand Canyon nixed though.  $400 per person!  A bit too steep for me.

All I need to do is get the hooligans their bordatella vaccination; pick their play activities; and we are ready.

Oh yeah...looking very forward to my Secret Santa shopping!

I'm almost certain that you can buy squirrel feeders at Lowes and Home Depot type stores.

There are squirrel feeders...I think I may have gotten one at Lowe's.  Didn't keep the squirrels from raiding the bird feeders as well, though!

Pagie- I am so sorry you and your family have to go through this. My grandma had alztimer and I remember she thought the neighbor was stealing her retirement checks out of the locked mail box.

Shoot, that was my OTHER grandmother, except we lived with her when I was a kid.  She would steal my stuffed animals as her own, and would lock my sister and I out of the house and call my mother and the police to report these hooligans banging on her front door trying to get in.  My mom distinctly recalls trying to explain to her that "those are your grandchildren!  Your son's daughters.  They are your family."

So envious! You're going to really enjoy these holiday. That's crummy that the helicopter ride costs so much though. I'm sure it'd be a great ride. We did the copter ride on the Big Island of Hawaii and it was amazing. It was a gift though, so I might have differently if we'd have had to pay for it.

I'm off to look for squirrel feeders. It might be something I could get DH for Christmas. He loves watching them even more than I do.

Good for you and your DH!  Too many people let family expectations/obligations spoil their holidays. The fact is that few of us have a Hallmark family and it does become so depressing to dread the holidays.  I hope you two have a great time. :)

Our new guy seems to be doing ok, so far.  He did sort of irritate me this morning.  GabbyG doesn't warm up to new people quickly.  This morning he was trying to pet her by getting in her space and reaching out to her with both arms and leaning in toward her.  She backed up immediately.  I told him to ignore her but he did it again.  I told him a little more forcefully to IGNORE her.  I gave him some treats and told him to toss one to her from across the room without making eye contact or saying anything.  He found this almost impossible.  He said and I quote "dogs love me". lol   Gabby will love you in her own time if you just quit acting like you're going to eat her up.

There was a big marathon here this weekend.  I was sad to read about a 32 year old man who collapsed and died at the end of the race. :(   He was in seemingly good health and condition.

Deb, Sammy seems to sleep the best AFTER he's woken us up.  I didn't get much sleep last night either... DH's plane was delayed and we got back from the airport at like 1 am, and he thought it a good time to catch up since we've barely spoken all week due to the time difference.

I may not want to hear the answer to this, but is "baby brain" only temporary or will I never be able to think ever again?  Stick out tongue

Can't wait to go to Vegas ourselves... which cirque de soliel show are you seeing?  I've heard good things about the beatles one, and someone told DH there's one that has to do with water thats really good.  Enjoy your holiday there!

Oh gosh thanksgiving is next week.  Eeeek.

bummer about the guy who died after the marathon! Man. Now I want to tell my brother not to run the marathon he is planning for next year!

Cathy they even sell squirrel food if you want to go that far. Personally I would just get a bird bath or tray feeder of some sort and fill that up to keep the mess from dropping on the ground. Speaking of which, I need to go buy some peanuts in the shell. I miss my blue jays and titmice.

I got everything I had on my to do list at work today. That means I have to run the magical number generator in order to get a true random statistical sample that I need for my next task. I've been putting this off until the last possible moment because it will be mentally painful.

Oh maybe I can look for someone to hire to do my gutters instead....hmmmm...

There were three that piqued our interest, but we chose the Beatles show!  So looking forward to it.  Here's the link to the Cirques in Vegas: http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/home.aspx#/en/home/shows/americas/usa/nevada/las-vegas.aspx

Thank you Jackie!  If it weren't for me whining about it earlier in the year with you guys....I probably wouldn't have made the decision to switch it up.  Such a relief taken off my shoulders.  My Sis#2 will be taking on the responsibility of inviting Mom and Dad somewhere.  Its about time.  Smile

I've heard that the Beatles show is the best but I wouldn't mind seeing any of them.

Speaking of holidays and family drama. DH's sister offered to host this year. Then she said that an older couple they're friends with want to host but we're invited. I didn't see it as a big deal but DH said he'd prefer we do something at home than go to these other people's house. That's fine with me too but now his sister is trying to do a bunch or rearranging and it's making me crazy. I told her she shouldn't and I wouldn't but she really enjoys managing this kind of stuff. I just got an email from my SIL and she invited us there for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, or to their beach house in Carmel following Thanksgiving. Now, that I would love to do but we'd have to find a sitter for Sassy. I haven't seen my adorably nephew yet though, so I may make a trip to see them and leave DH home to dog sit Stick out tongue

why did I decided to look at our county shelter available dogs?  and the great dane rescue?  Really bad decision.

I know what you mean. Ever since we lost Buffy, I find myself thinking "should we?" With the aggression issues those 2 had though, I'm not ready to even do a trial run. I just want to enjoy having one healthy(ish) dog for now but when I check sites like that, it does start the wheels turning. Seeing all the sweet GRs yesterday really tugged at my heart.

It's temporary.  It'll get better after the first couple of months of major sleep deprivation after the baby is born.

Be warned, though.  It starts happening again as you approach menopause.  We women can't win for losing.

Cathy and Deb, you can send Sassy and Jamison to my house for Thanksgiving.  Apparently DS has plans that don't include me, so I'm free for 4 days.
