My heart is pounding like a mad woman and I am praying I don't get a call before the school day is over.
Lisa -- let her know that this is the BEST time of the year to start school. YOu get to do "fall" stuff and probably Halloween stuff and then Thanksgiving stuff and then all the Holiday stuff. Lots of good stuff in the fall to keep her a bit more distracted and "look forward to".
Even the new clothes -- "look what you GET to wear *Just* for school". I used to get so stoked about the things I got for school (and Mom wouldn't allow me to wear them anywhere else)
Talk to the teacher for a few minutes and see what special things she does, and you'll likely find a couple of things that Riley will think are very cool. I probably would have gone to Kindergarten (they didn't HAVE pre-school back in cave-man days when I went) JUST to paint at the easel. I didn't have one of those at home. You'd have thot I was a budding Rembrandt or something. All I had at home were fingerpaints LOL
Best of luck to you -- I hope it is an absolute breeze. Just remember, it is NOT uncommon for children to hate being left. Given what this teacher does, I'm betting she's a pro at the separation thing so take your cue from her. Often the tears are more for Mom's benefit than you'd think and they dry up before Mom gets to the parking lot. Not always -- but it's always a gut-wrenching time for a parent. You aren't unusual. It's pretty normal, in fact.
