Moaning on a Monday

    Moaning on a Monday

Oh my.  Really overdid this weekend and my body is protesting.  I've still got a lot to do to get ready to go so no slacking today!  At least I won't be going into the office daily for a couple months.  More as needed.  I could use a break.

Bright and sunny here today, so that does good things for the energy levels!

    Have a good day all.

Jackie, how was dinner last night? Worth having to wear dress-up clothes?

DS came home and left again before I got home from work yesterday, then called and asked if it was okay to do dinner and cake tonight instead.  I agreed and still resisted cutting the cake.  I'm cutting into it tonight no matter what.

My stupid brother completely blew off DS's b'day - no card, no phone call, not even an email.  It's always nice that he shows how much he cares - DS is his only nephew and bro has no kids.  Family....hmph.

Good thoughts continued for Grimmy.  I see he is able to come home, maybe already there.

It was really nice. :)  We didn't have to wear dress up clothes, thank goodness.  This place is expensive but not a dress up kind of place.   We had a great dinner and even better desserts.  Our waiter brought us two flutes of champagne with dessert, when we told him it was our anniversary dinner.  That really upped his tip. lol   Charles had the profiteroles for dessert but I had to order for him as he couldn't pronounce the word.  Thanks to the Barefoot Contessa, I knew how to say it. lol  I had the strawberries soaked in Grand Marnier, layered with ice cream and whipped cream.   Well worth the calories. lol  The steaks were humongous so we have left overs for tonight.

Sorry your bro ignored your DS's birthday, Tina.   I can't believe you didn't cut into that cake.  What willpower!

Very foggy here this morning.  I hate driving in fog. :(

Happy belated birthday to your son, Tina.

Jackie - so glad you had a great time at dinner.  Were the profiteroles dipped in chocolate?? Yum.

Did anyone here from Lisa??  Did she survive Riley's first day at school??

Glenda:  when I come in a read what you posted over the weekend, I just want to go home and go back to bed.  It tires me out just reading about all you get done on the weekends.

Yes, drizzled in chocolate.  I had a taste and they were fantastic.  My dessert kind of melted but I threw all ideas of being ladylike out the window and drank the last of it. lol  I'm glad Charles didn't take a picture of me drinking out of a parfait glass. lol

I will admit I had to look up what a profiterole is.

Jackie, I thought you said you had to find a pair of black dress pants, which is my definition of dress up clothes.  Anything not denim is dress up in my book.

I'd have been hard pressed to choose, Jackie -- I *love* profiteroles but I probably love Grand Marnier over strawberries and ice cream *better*.  mmmm, making my mouth water at 10:00 a.m. LOL

Did anyone else see Ides of March?  David wanted to see it badly -- rare, but we both disliked it.  David said as we were walking out "Usually this would be a YOU comment, but I couldn't find **anyone** in that whole darned movie to root for ... it just kinda "ended" with no resolution!"  I mean it's always nice to see George Clooney but ...

Tina they aren't common - our favorite Greek restaurant makes them.  Just wee tiny shells with whipped cream or similar in them with chocolate on top -- kinda like tiny bite-sized eclairs with chocolate drizzled rather than frosterd.  It's my understanding they are a royal pain to make hence you don't find them much.  I was probably 52 before I ever had them (and at that place they were a "special" not ON the menu).  I couldn't have spelled it TO look it up LOL

I'm here Deb!  School doesn't start until 1:26 today (she's in the afternoon class).  Although I think I am more nervous than on my wedding day or the day she was born.  I am working from the office this morning and heading home in about an hour.  My heart is pounding like a mad woman and I am praying I don't get a call before the school day is over.

Happy belated B-day to your son Tina.

A profiterole is a fancy schmancy name for a cream puff.  I make savory cheddar and chive ones and fill them with lobster salad for appetizers all the time.

Keep it together until you get to your car and then you can go berserk.

    Good luck !!

Tina, I was going to wear some black dress pants but looked at the restaraunt's site again and it said "casual".  That means jeans to us, but we did wear nice shirts. Big Smile

These profiteroles were far from delicate pastries.  I guess they made them Texas style. lol   They were filled with ice cream instead of the traditional filling and were huge.   We have had them at a CIA bakery here and they were the traditional type Callie described.

I just looked profiteroles up too...oh, you are talking about cream puffs!!!  Actually they are fairly easy to make.  I imagine tiny ones would be a pain to make, but they can be made larger.  I used to make the large ones and freeze them for a quick dessert.  Forgot all about them...

Breathe Lisa, breathe.  She will do fine and you will too.  Might be an adjustment period...but, I'm sure it will be OK.

So glad to hear your dinner was a success, Jackie!  Sounds divine!

Tina, happy belated birthday to your son!  I've said it before, and I'll say it again.  Family sux.  I hope he had a good day!

I am running around busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest!   So much to do to organize and get ready for the Barcelona trip in two weeks!  Its going to be good...I'll get it all done.  Wheee!

Saturday, Rick and I attended what was supposed to be a "housewarming party"  It turned out to be a surprise Wedding!  A big surprise to all the guests anyway!  The bride did it all herself.  It was amazing!  And, quite the success!  Fun!

Gosh, all the descriptions of yummy food has me craving something sweet now. I'm glad your dinner was nice Jackie.

Lisa - Sending you calm, be strong vibes for Riley's first day of school.

A surprise wedding? Now, that's something I'd not heard of before. Kind of sounds like a fun idea.

Tina - I hope you get to eat that cake tonight.

It's supposed to be sunny and mid 80s today and most of the week. I love it!! Even my Hibiscus plants have new flowers on them.

Lisa it's going to be a roller coaster but you'll get thru. I STILL dread everytime the house phone rings because I worry it's the school and mine are 8 and ten YEARS old! That part won't change :) Riley will have a ton of fun today and that is going to be awesome! Setting things up with Cleo today and I am really starting to get palpitations at the cost and just...everything. I wish it was simple like with the hounds.
