I have a question for anyone that knows. How do states that don't collect state income taxes come up with revenues? I can see that Nevada could do it with gambling and maybe Texas with the all the oil there, but what about Florida, Washington and any other state? Anyone know?

My guess is it is a combination of sales tax as well as taxes on business.  We have a state Franchise tax that businesses pay here.

What is your sales tax at? It's 8.375% for my area. I'm sure property taxes vary and might be higher in states that don't collect.

New Hampshire has no income tax and no sales tax (except on prepared meals and a few other randoms like sin taxes).  However, our property taxes average about $25/$1000 across the state - the town I'm in now pays just under $28, and one of the wealthiest towns in NH pays just over 9%.  We supplement with lottery, apparently.

Things are really bad in our area with the rain, Harrisburg or part of it has been evacuated, all power and water turned off in those areas too.  New Cumberland or part of it was evacuated also same conditions.  River will crest sometime tomorrow night or Sat. morning.  It is really bad.  I live in Camp Hill, across the river from Harrisburg, lots of roads are blocked.  Where I live I have no problems with basement water or anything so far, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I feel bad for those in the surrounding areas though.  Keep them in you prayers the worst is yet to come for them.

It looks like it's quite bad out your way... just saw that Hershey Park is closed this weekend, and is partially flooded.  They lost one bison due to drowning, and put another one down so it wouldn't drown. One of my cousin's also linked to pictures of Knoebels on Facebook, which also looks it got hit pretty hard. It looks like most of the bridges near me have been reopened, but I'm not to sure about the prospects of getting to NJ tomorrow morning.  I think we're good on rain for a while now... even a little bit at the moment will cause some flooding again since everything is so high.

LOL, Paige, that's incredible! "Live free or die," I guess!

Sending flooded thoughts to you guys in Texas and warm, dry thoughts for everyone being flooded.

We've got property taxes and income taxes here in PA, and sales taxes. There's been off and on talks of soda taxes in Philadelphia, but it never happens (cause the rich would buy their soda outside the city, and the poor would stop drinking it).

A childhood friend lives around Wilkes Barre (I think) and it looks like she is getting evacuated.

There's a car dealership in NJ called FC Kerbeck. The commercial just came on, and really, the website name looks bad if you're up too late. They show it on the commercial with no caps and no spaces. Yeah, you know what it looks like.
