Found dog today Yorkie or silky

My friend found this dog on her porch this morning. She brought it to me and i was tod it was a yorkie but then i was told it looked like a silky. What do you think?Hes about 6 lbs but Very underweight. You can see all of his vertebrae and hip bones and ribs. His skin is stretched tightly over his bones, youcant even pinch a tiny bit of it!.I dont know how long he was lost but hes not dirty and its been raining for days here.It makes me wonder about his previous owner and what do do if they come forward to claim him.

He looks a bit thin, like you said.  He's a cutie though.  I'd be looking for him if he was mine.

I don't know the laws in your area, but you might be required to report him to animal control.  I'd just post flyers with my contact info, if I could provide a place for him to stay for a while.

I bet he's just been lost a while...feed him up and try to find the owners, and keep us posted!

The other thought that crosses my mind is that he might belong to a senior who doesn't have enough money to live on. [sm=sad.gif]

Looks like a Silky to me.  But I've seen some pet store Yorkies that looked like that too.  If  you're going to post anything, I'd mention both breeds.

I have sent his picture and my phone number to animal control and the local SPCA.I just worry about sending him back if he was intentionally deprived of food. The pictures dont even begin to show how thin he is,imagine him without the hair! Also the photos are after 4 big meals and lots of water to hydrate him.Atleast he is eating well since coming here.

I did think of that one too.If that is the case i would be willing to help provide some food for him so they could stay together and healthy too.He may be all they have.

It's also possible that he has some sort of health issue that just doesn't allow him to keep weight on. My Legend has allergies, and for the longest time, he would simply pick at food, no matter what I tried. So for a bit, he was quite thin.  All has worked out well now and he eats very well and has his weight back, but I'd hate to think that if he'd been lost, that someone would have thought I was starving him and not returned him.

He is a cutie pie for sure. Have you been able to have him scanned to see if he is chipped?

You can also place an add in your paper for free, however, I would only state something like, found small dog, male, call to identify and your phone number because of scammers thinking they can get a free dog or dishonest people wanting the dog. Also go to the websites like petfinder, mia.com, pets911.com, lostpetsfoundpets.com and see if he is posted on the web.

Good luck. I know he is in great loving hands now.

His owners have been found! They state adamantly that he is a yorkie although im not so sure about that.I asked them why he was so skinny. He was only running stray for about 10 minutes before he found my friends house. He said hes just skinny, allways has been.I found this strange because in the 20hrs i had him i was able to get a little weight on him.

I am glad he is ok and the owners have been located. Maybe in regard to his skinniness they don't feed him a good quality food and secondly, too much people food too.

He's cute! I'm glad you were able to find his owners, quickly.

How would too much people food make a dog skinny?

If that is all he was ever fed. It could go either way. Too much fat and grizzly (sp) food could make them fat or it could make them skinny. Especially if they are picky eaters.
