I think a more submissive dog might work also. We have a male Boston Terrier who is about 5 and a female Min Pin who is about 9 months. Our situation is reversed b/c the BT was here b/f the min pin but they get a long great. Izzy also gets along great with her cousins that are dashounds (s/p?). A pug would be fun and not too much larger but I think they can be pretty hyper too. Harley was really hyper when he was younger but has gotten less so as he has gotten older. Izzy is definatly the most hyper dog I have ever had though! I would also suggest a male if you have a female since females can sometimes be a little more b*tchy with each other. The thing that has been great for us in getting another dog is that they play with each other constantly which takes a little of the pressure off of us for such a spoiled little dog that always wants to be the center of attention....yes, I have one of those too...in fact is have two!
Something else to consider is how well your Min Pin gets along with larger dogs. Izzy does fine with them but is more inclined to snap at them b/c they intimidate her which sometimes can cause a chain reaction. It seems like it would be harder for your Min Pin and a large dog to play as well. Just some things to consider.
