    1st of June Wednesday chat

good morning! Yes it is still hot and humid, forecasting 97* today. Seriously Jackie very sweet of you to share your weather but it's OK I'll take our 'normal' temps LOL

Bugsy ate a huge chunk of microfiber towel the other day - happy to report it has been evacuated Stick out tongue

Waiting for the masonry guy to arrive we have a couple of things that need to be finished and then I need to fly out of here

    and that is about it

have a great day and take care in the heat

Karen, I'm always happy to share our abundance of heat and humidity but most people aren't as appreciative as you are. Wink  Seriously, it's not fun even if you're used to it and I should be, after living here all my life.  I don't even pay any attention to the temps once we get in this weather pattern. :(  Glad to hear the towel has been processed by Bugsy without a hitch.

Tina, hope you're feeling better today.

Ruger the Weim got sprayed by a skunk yesterday evening.  He's not at work today since he's still smelling a little skunky according to his owners.  Ick!

Bugsy, I am glad you are not retaining the towel - don't scare your mom like that by eating stuff you shouldn't.

Paige, I hope your eye is better today.  If not, don't delay too long making a trip to the doctor.  Eye injuries are nothing to mess with.

I am not as congested in my head, but can feel it in my chest.  Bleh.

We had a tornado warning last night, but thankfully it missed us.

Oh yeah, that'll last a couple days.  And the first time he gets wet in the rain or otherwise - the smell will come back again.  Hot and humid here too but we're supposed to get a couple big thundershowers this afternoon to blow this weather out.  Seems like no one has a Spring anymore.  We go right from Winter to Summer with no break in between.

Hot and humid here today as well with nasty storms coming in later today.  And then tomorrows high??  MID 60's.  That's a little more like it!  Tomorrow will be a good day to finish up the garden, and cool enough that I can put a light weight shirt on that will cover my shoulders/back.

If I might just clarify the lack of sunblock yesterday......I wasn't going outside to attempt to get a tan or to play outside much of the day.  I went out to work in the garden early enough that I didn't think the sun would be an issue and literally got so caught up in what I was doing that I didn't realize how long I'd been out there or the horrible amount of exposure I was getting.  I did at one point think about putting some sunblock on, but, as I said yesterday, when you are on your knees digging through soil to extract crab grass roots, you are as much as advertising yourself as the daily special on the bug buffet and I knew that sunblock would attract even more.  To be clear, I do not advocate being out in the sun without sun protection and I was stupid.

On the plus side, much of the burn is already turning to tan with just a couple fire engine red spots that are still rather tender.

Blech....off to write collection letters.  I absolutely HATE assisted refunds.

Glenda, I know you weren't advocating getting burned. I was just harassing you about it a bit. Seriously though people, sunblock is your friend, unless you want to be a lobster.

I think it's another 90 something day here, then cooling off to 80 tomorrow. I hate when it's so hot, because my parents will set the house to be cold (as if they don't understand how this works, they put it in the 60s in the summer, and high in the winter). It makes the basement freezing. I slept last night in long pants and a long sleeve shirt.

No, I don't do FB.  But, she has not posted here in ages either.  I hope she is well.

Yep, Meg is getting married on the 11th.

ETA: Barb, how is Rocky doing?

Just got an update from Courtney last night.  He is fully integrated into the cat pack!  He and Mr. Kitty are partners in crime running and chasing each other around the house getting rowdy, and breaking things.  Oops...sorry Court.  Surprise  She told me that he is a PITA and walks around at night getting into things.  That's my boy!  She said that he is going to the kids for luvins and they are dishing it out.  So, all seems to be well.

After checking in to Alaska cruises, I found that they don't even sail from October - April, so that answered that. I talked to DH about it last night and May will work out perfectly. Unfortunately, since they don't get to ask for vacation time for the year until Dec/Jan, we won't know what days off he gets until then. Hopefully it'll still be plenty of time to plan something.

We had a very upsetting evening. About 8ish we heard a noise in out front and then a dog barking. DH went to go check and when he didn't come back for a few min's, I went to see what was going on. Turned out that a guy was out for a walk with his baby in a stroller and his off leash boxer. The dog chased and attacked a neighbor's cat. The fight broke out right in our front bushes and then the dog dragged the cat across the street before the owner could catch up to it and pull it off. He ran to take the dog and baby home and I went to a neighbor's house to see if they knew who the cat belonged to and they did. The poor cat had crawled over under some bushes and was growling at us at 1st but by the time the owners got there, Snookers was pretty quiet Sad. The guy had come back and was telling them he'd follow them to the E Vet. I'm not optimistic but I'd love to hear the cat was okay. We were both really upset but DH even more so than me because he'd watched the whole thing. I know the guy with the dog felt really awful but I just don't understand why he didn't have his dog on a leash. When the dog was attacking the cat, DH said the guy was using the leash to try to beat the dog off  Super Angry

Anyhoo - it took me a long time to settle down and get to sleep and then I woke up several times during the night. The gloomy weather doesn't exactly boost my mood or energy either Sleep

This is going to be one of the most exciting months ever!  On June 10th I close on my house which is and will be a huge step for me.  Everything is done and ready to go, now I just have to wait for that date to come.  Our FHA loan inspection came back clean which really surprised our Realtor, she said that she has never had that happened before.  That means we do not have to do anything to the home before we move in.  As soon as we close we can start living there!

I am also getting my small animal massage certification the middle of this month.  This should allow me to do quite a bit more therapy work with the shelter dogs and my training classes.

Then, at the end of this month I am taking a trip back to New Mexico for my 10yr HS renion. I really do miss my home state. I can't beleave it's already been 10 years, so much has happened in that time.

Now, if only I could adjust to this humidity.

Xebby, congrats on all your great June happenings!

Cathy, that story about the cat is terrible and I hope the kitty survives.  I'm not defending the dog owner, who obviously should have had his dog under control, but I don't agree with people who let their cats roam outside.  They are in danger from loose dogs, cars and coyotes and other predators.  They also kill a lot of birds. Sad  I speak from sad experience.

Work computer problems all day yesterday and gues what?  today too!!  (bleachhhh)

Finally WE have rain (and we need it) so somebuddy's rain is making it down here!!

Cathy -- ugh -- I feel badly for both of you, altho I, too, hate to see "outdoor kitties" because they kill birds and get diseases.  My whole neighborhood has ferals/outdoor cats (that belong to no one) and when they feed them THAT feeds the coons (which are SO highly loaded with rabies here).

Feel better Tina!  ugh, when it goes to *my* chest it's the worst.

    • Gold Top Dog

Xebby - Good to hear from you and congratulations on all the great things going on with you.

Regarding the outdoor kitty thing, I'm in total agreement. The last cat I had was an indoor only cat and if I had another one, it would be the same way. I did think about that last night too and I think about it every time I see a cat that has been hit by a car. The off leash dog issue is a biggie for me though because it's always made walking my dogs a nerve wracking experience and I resent it. I think because we live in a gated community people feel like they don't have to worry as much.

    • Gold Top Dog
Cathy, I'm sorry your DH had to witness the dog attack the cat.  Loose pets are a hazard to other animals as well as to the people who follow the rules.  It's a people problem, not necessarily an animal's fault, and can result in tragedy all the way around.
