Northern breed name question!

    Northern breed name question!

I have two coydogs here (yes, indeed!) - about 1/16 coy probably, crossed with BC.  They are just beautiful, probably littermates, from a near feral dog situation but settling in nicely.

They are stunningly gorgeous - one is pure white with a teeny bit of red spotting on his ears, feet, etc.  He looks like a husky cross but there's no possible way - it's just the coy coming through, apparently.  The other is all black with just a teeny bit of black - looks identical to the dog I think is his littermate.

I really need to take some pics - they really are neat looking.

Question, these beautiful rescues need special names.  Traditional BC names just don't feel right - "Bob" "Lad" . . . meh.

I'd like some Russian, Scandinavian, or Aluit names - preferably dog names.  It would be really cool if one could indicate "white" somehow and the other "dark."

    I'm assuming they're both boy-o's?

'Luca' means 'bringer of light' (Italian) 'Lucas' is Latin for 'light', 'Apollo' is the Grecian god of light, 'Barak' is Hebrew for 'lightning'.

'Braedan' is Celtic for 'dark valley', 'Corby' is English for 'dark as a raven', 'Sully' is Celtic for dark...

I'm not sure what sounds right for you, and I'm not really sure about Scandanavian names, but, hope this helps. :o)

    Oooh, just found this:

The Viking (Scandanavian) god of light and joy is 'Balder' and their god of darkness is 'Loki'.

Oooooh [:D] cool, thanks for helping me learn new stuff.  I think those are cool names, too...

Both boys. Hopefully a little less so by the end of the week, if they prove HW negative.  [;)]

I'd use the obvious Loki for one of them but I've already had one of those, about five years ago. I never repeat a name if I can help it.  but that's something of what I'm looking for.  Wagner fans, anyone?

Believe it or not, I've already had a Corby, Sully, Barach (one of my fav Bible names), and  Lucas (and Luke).

    I've always liked Nanuq.

I used to groom an Akita named Nanook. He was a sweetheart.

This is a really interesting thread!

Ok, found 'Hoth/Hoder/Hodur' who is apparently another god of darkness?  Also, 'Niflheim' (although I really can't see anyone calling that out the back door :o)) which means 'region of darkness'  Then there's 'Midgard/Midgarth' which is earth, and the region of light.

    I'm having fun. :o)

Or, how about this?  Awen, or Awendela, is a native american word meaning, light; and Kishi is night, or darkness.  Don't ask me which tribes they're from.  Probably completely different ones that hated each other, but they still sound alright.

Finally, listening to Norwegian Black Metal pays off. LOL
    Svart is  for Dark
    Dag is  for Day
    Nacht means night
Skadi was an ice Giantess whose father was killed by Odin and sought revenge for her father.
Freki was one of Odin's wolves
Fenriz was the name of the wolf they had to bind to protect Asgard but when the end of the world approaches he will break the tethers and swallow the sun.
Loki is the god of mischief. Baldor the god of light.
Sif was the goddess whose golden hair was cut off by Loki. Symbolic of harvest.
Valkyrie is a cool name for a dog.
Freya, Odin, Thorr, Gullveig-which means golden voice. Helgrind-prounounced Hel-grin-d..was the gateway to the underworld. I'd keep going but I am tired.LOL

Let's see, Wagner's Ring Cycle has Woton, Siegfried, Gunther and Siegmund.

There's always Beowulf, Grendel and Hrothgar...

How about Native American names? Coyotes were very much a part of many tribes' cultures.

    Here's a site I pulled off of google :

It has more Tribes on it too.
