Mangled Monday

Morning all,  sadness around here, Joplin tornado is so devastating.  We are safe but had some scares thru the night.  If you are in the path of these storms please dont take any chances they are bad ones.  We have more storms coming today and they say even worse tomorrow.

Just heard from an employee at the Walmart warehouse in Bentonville, they have been shipping supplies out to Joplin since the tornado hit last night.  A driver just came back for a second load and he said they are hearing a baby crying at the store in Joplin....they say they are still carefully trying to locate survivors.  Our local search and rescue have a team of 30 with the SAR Dogs on site since last night.  Prayers to all, special prayers to the SAR teams that they are successful.

Thanks to everyone that wished me a Happy birthday.  We had a nice weekend.  My baby girl and her family were coming to surprize me and they broke down on the turnpike 1/2 way to our home.  My son went to rescue them and so I didnt get to see them.  After all the storms and devestation...My daughter and I have  agreed that the Angels were watching over my family yesterday.  If they had made it to our house they would have been on the road when all those storms came through last night.

Hugs to all have a safe day!

I signed up too when we lived in MI at one point, but they always wanted to send me 50-60 miles on country two lanes.  The one eatery we got in town was horrid, overpriced and we never got reimbursed.  Sis does it and has all sorts of fun and gets lots of free meals and goodies.  Doesn't seem to work that way for me, altho I'd love to try it again.

I opted out of gardening.  It's cold and damp here...not cold cold but coolish and I'm plum tired of working out there.  My legs feel like lead from all the squatting and crawling around on my knees so I will probably take today off from that.

I was watching the news on the devastation in Joplin this morning and it was heartbreaking. The guy who was doing the reporting actually broke down as he described what he was seeing Crying.  They're all in my thoughts and prayers today.

I feel a little ridiculous for even complaining about our weather here, so I'll just say it's cooler than usual and we haven't had one day recently that wasn't really windy - blech!

Sharon - I'm so glad the tooth pain wasn't anything more serious and you're getting some relief.

I have so much work covering my desk, I could barely find a place to put my coffee mug down. I'm hoping to plow thru it all before the day is over.

I'm truely sorry if my comments offended you.  Considering that traditional marriages don't seem to last these days, I don't think ANYONE has the right to condemn an "alternate" marriage.  It's my thinking that you and Kelly have made the same commitment to one another in your hearts, that Todd and I have made.  And the two of you have a much harder path to walk than we do because of other people looking askance.  Shoot, its not that many years ago that one didn't marry outside of ones own race or religion.  Geeze.

Glenda, you in NO WAY offended me.  You are right.  We are all different, but equal.  At least we should be equal in regards to laws.  I have my own hang ups about certain types of relationships that others are comfortable with.  This country has gotten over the hurdle of inter-racial marriages and the less obvious inter-religous marriages.  I have faith that we will one day get over this hurdle as well.   Kelly and I have been together for 12 years.  In our hearts we are as commited as you and Todd.  I am happy to report that in our daily lives, there is very little struggle.

Sharon brought up the federal recognition point.  So true !  Kelly and I could have gone to Iowa or Canada and gotten married.  It wouldn't do us a lick of good.  No recognition between states (or countries) and no Federal recognition.  We could have had a commitment cermemony....but why bother.  We have decided to wait until we can get married for real.  You are all invited !!

The news from Joplin seems to be getting worse.  Same for the news from North Minneapolis.  I just read a story about a man dying from heart attack while helping to clean up.  So sad.  Must have been terrifying for all those people.

Honestly, a not so insignificant part of the reason I have no desire to be married, DOES stem from the fact that my friends who are not in heterosexual relationships cannot do so and have it recognized on the federal level.

Someone said something about my tooth pain - I think you meant Tina!

I'll PM any of you who said you had looked into mystery shopping before, with my company's information later tonight. I just don't want to break any rules here with promoting the company I work for.

I haven't bitten my nails, with the exception of two of them (one broke, so I bit it off then bit off the nail of the matching opposite finger lol) in a long time. I actually have some nails now! I do however have to learn how to file them. Yes, I've never once in my life filed my nails lol. It's nice to not see completely chewed up nails and fingers though. I still have the urge to bite them all off. Then again, I've been biting my nails since I was a young kid - I can't expect to beat the habit altogether overnight!

I am gay.  For me, this debate and discussion and law is all about LEGAL rights.  I can't possibly speak for the entire gay community, but I do feel comfortable saying that the legal aspect of marriage is what we are fighting for.  I would like to see this country move toward the European view of marriage.   First and foremost, it is a civil ceremony completing the legal contract between two people.  Afterwards, if you wish to incorporate religious ceremony...go right ahead.    I just want the same rights, protections, privileges and responsibilities as the rest of you.

Totally agree, Mindy. Marriage is only religious or a *sacrament* for those who choose to make it so. It is, as you said, first and foremost a legal contract with the state.  I don't care if someone goes to the Vatican and gets married by the pope ... until that license is signed and filed, it's not legal. At some point TPTB will have to realize that denying certain groups of people the same rights that everyone else has is just plain unconstitutional.  And it should never, ever be put on a ballot like they did in CA.  Had integration  been put on a  ballot, we'd still be back in the glorious 50s as far as race goes.

The sun is shining, the wind is barely blowing and it feels really nice ... except that "they" are saying it will be back to the 60s on Wednesday. Tongue Tied

Mindy....PHEW!  I totally recognize that many of my "issues" come from my age and upbringing.  Gosh, when my sister married a Catholic man you would have thot he came from Mars....THAT was a big deal at that time.

To me, marriage should be a sacred commitment, regardless of who is married.  It is really sad in our society that so many marriages and relationships end when the going gets tough.

Thank you, Ginger.  Our day was very special, topped off by the fact that the world didn't end!

I'm neither gay nor married, but any adult couple who wishes to be recognized in the legal contract that is marriage ought to be, I think.  If that makes me a bad Christian, then that's disheartening, but helps explain why I'm still here post-rapture, I guess!

I am *totally* diggin' my 4day work week!!  It's awesome!!  Lots of pressure for the days I am here, but to only have that in 4 days and get 3-day weekends is sooo nice!

Callie, I'm sorry you're on anti-biotics again.  Not to get too detailed, but do they have an idea of what causes it for you?  The pic of Tessy yesterday was so sweet, though!

The Lindt chocolate factory next door is closing its retail shop while the building undergoes renovations and expansions.  Today they're offering 75% off of what's left in their store.  My boss just got 6+lbs of chocolate for $35.  She sits next to me.... This is so cruel to see a giant vase of chocolate only 6' away.... MUST CONTROL IMPULSE TO EAT CHOCOLATE!

    You've got until 6pm Eastern Time. ;0)

Paige, your willpower is awsome. lol   I hope Tina's jet arrives soon or I'll miss the sale. :)  I'm glad you're enjoying your new job.  I'm trying not to hate you for having a four day week. Big Smile

Ginger, I hope you guys aren't hit with any really bad storms.  Stay safe vibes for all in the path.

Mindy, that was sad about the raptor resource director dying of a heart attack while helping his neighbor's clean up after a tornado hit them in MN.   The destruction in Joplin is mind boggling.

I had to make a trip to the doctor this afternoon.  Started up with UTI symptoms yesterday. Sad  She gave me a script for cipro so hopefully that will kick in soon and I'll not feel like I need to be within three feet of the bathroom at all times.

    Ugh, sorry about the uti!

Mindy, I agree on the marriage front. I get very annoyed when people mix church and state.

Sucks about Joplin. I wish I could be there to help with the sar.

I survived my first day at the new job! It felt like a really smooth transition actually. It helps that I already know most of the people that work there. So I only have to learn the names of a few. That takes some of the pressure off.

The weather today is gorgeous. Should I mow the lawn or take the dogs for a hike? Decisions decisions

Jackie hope the cipro works fast!

Joplin and other areas just so sad.

Mindy it angers me - that is all I will say - it angers me a lot.  I don't want to say anything inappropriate on here so I will leave it at that.

Back from the beach, clothes washed, dog bathed, dog blankets washed, car washed, emails mostly sorted, grass mowed, back to life, back to reality

Lots of hot humid weather this week with plenty of storms

Hmm that's about all for now, getting sleepy
