Found a friendly Blue Tick Hound this morning (Outdoorschik)

I had an interesting morning. Typically lost dogs gravitate to my house since we have a kennel of sled dogs.

I woke up hearing the dogs go nuts outside. As I let the housedogs out and stumbled around, no contacts in, Annabelle a black and tan alaskan husky ran around the side of the house to do her business. I thought she'd came back around but apparently lack of contacts makes me Blind as a Bat, because I began to wonder why she looked lighter in color than normal, if she'd rolled in something. As I began to pat "her" I realized I was petting a dog that was not my own. It was a friendly male, blue tick coon hound. No collar or tags but a healthy and well fed four leggers. Wow... at that point I got him in a collar and tethered him to a tree while I put my contacts in and got some coffee :)

Apparently, he'd come down to the kennel to find himself a girlfriend... he was intact. 99% of my dogs are altered, thank goodness. I've taken some pictures, called the local vets and PD's and now we wait. He's a happy boy, literally levitating (all four legs off the ground when he leaps) in excitement when he sees us.

Fingers crossed he finds his owner and they are nice folks... he may be a "bear hunting dog" for hunters up here, but he's pretty friendly if that's the case. Thank goodness I closed up my chickens last night or there would have been a massacre this morning. Also, I really hope he wasn't dumped.

I am blind as well without my glasses !

I do hope he has a family missing him.

Given that bats use sonar it's a darned good substitute -- in my old age my distance vision has improved.  I no longer have to wear glasses to go to a movie.  but reading?  ugh.

But hey -- petting is still a good way to know he's not one of yours!!  You could always call him Huckleberry!  (as in Huckleberry Hound) - HE was blue!! LOL

Here he is, as you can tell he's very well taken care of. He was clean, well fed, nails trimmed, and some rubbed down fur where his collar had been:

Aw, he sure is cute!  I hope you're able to find the owners and that he wasn't just dumped.

Give him some scritches for me!

I'm still giggling at you petting him thinking he was one of your own. LOL. I am almost blind without my glasses/contacts to, so I can understand!

He is very cute! Please hug him for me and possibly give him a slice of bacon (he IS a hound after all!).

Me too.. imagine that mental shock (before coffee) as my brain put together that this was a random dog running up to me that I was petting. Blurry vision and blurry brain before coffee. I just ran the leashed dogs in the house and made a loop with a leash to catch him (though he was jumping all over me, not exactly difficult to catch...)

What a handsome boy! I hope his owners step forward soon.

He's adorable! I hope he finds his hoomans soon.

I'm totally blind without my glasses, too. Geeked

What a handsome boy!!!  I think he was plesantly surprised to get rubbies this morning instead of told to go away.  Give him some rubbies from me.

Any news?  Did "Beau" (aren't all hound dogs named Beau?) go home yet?

What a handsome boy! Your story reminds me of the commercial where the lady is calling her cat in and a raccoon comes instead!

Err, actually we affectionately have nicknamed him, um... "Boner" hehe.  Well, I suppose there is no explanation needed, suffice it to say, if he stays here a few weeks with no owner, he's getting neutered before we place him. My vet came over for a farm call, scanned him for a chip, no chip :(. We'd better think of a better name though, because now everyone is calling him that, vet and techs included. The vet called with his stool results (we sent some in to be sure we weren't dealing with any parasites that would stay here long after him) and the tech giggled as she said she was calling with his results.

Anyway, there's an ad in the paper, he's well taken care of in the meantime, loves the other dogs and us apparently and even went for a run with the sled dogs... actually he ran a bit and rode the rest in the cart, but it's the trying that counts :) I've spoken with just about every breeder and coon/cat/bear hunter in the state and surrounding area. Met lots of nice people and one lady who may take him (she runs hounds) if we can't find his home. More and more as the days go by and as we track down all the hunters up here we suppose he may have been dumped. We have hunters calling hunters, and good old fashioned word of mouth going, but nadda. I spoke with the local rescue and she says there was a dog matching his description that a lady wanted them to take months ago... I hate to think the worst of people.

I think you should call him Skip. LoL he just looks like a Skip or Skippy. Thank you for taking care of this bubba while someone can be found or he can be rehomed.

Thanks so much for taking care of this handsome boy.  How about Cletus for a name?  Travis??
