    What type of collar...

...Do you walk your dog in?  Is there a difference between your walking collar/harness and the one you train in?

To train Gizmo I used a prong that I was taught how to properly use by a trainer that I use in her obedience class. I also have a simple martangle collar that she wears at all time that has her tags and information on her which I use on longer walks and in the park. I used a harness when she was recovering from her surgery but don't really need it anymore.

we just use a regular flat collar all the time.

If we're going out in public, I use harnesses. If we're walking around the property or going to the bathroom (on leash because we don't have a fence up yet), I slip on choke collars so they can't slip out of their regular collars. Brown's only slipped out of a regular collar once, but Brown and Grey's recalls suck when they're together, so I don't want to risk chasing one or both in the middle of the night because someone had the urge to catch a possum or some other random wild animal (we live near a swamp so there's tons of wildlife here).

For training I use a regular flat collar.   For going out I use a plain harness.

I use a plain harness all the time, i heard small breed puppies tracheas(sp?) collaspe eaisly. when she gets older ill probably use a flat collar or martingale..

I used to use a regular collar and leash, then a regular harness (have small dogs and concerned about their treachea (sp?) issues.

A few days ago I received the Yap Wrap body harness for small dogs from QVC.  It was a little expensive but I love it.  It's a harness that wraps around their body and closes with velcro around their neck (doesn't bother their throat at all) and another velcro closure around their chest/body.  For some reason, my dogs don't seem to pull as much when they wear these.  And, it is much easier to put on than a regular harness.

I posted a separate thread about this and someone offered another place to go on line to get them for about half the price.  I'll look into those as well.

Depending on how Maddi is behaving (leash edicate wise), I either use the flat collar, her GL, or her RuffWear harness that goes with her backpack. I try to use the GL as little as possible, but I've find it invaluable in retraining loose leash walking... as recently she's started to pull like a fiend.

For Max, I use a regular flat collar. Millie wears a gentle leader when she goes for a walk, and a leather collar around the house.

I walk Romeo on a all in one leash, I don't know like they use at the dog shows...is a collar but a leash at the same time by Mandota is nice and soft...I do put a flat collar on him though when I take him to the park because it has his tags and everything, and around the house I don't use anything at all.

When Georga lived with me I would use a no-pull harness on her. It worked great, as she pulled it tightened under her arms and she would stop pulling a walk wonderfuly on the harness.

When I tried the no pull harness on Gizmo it didn't even start to slow her dow, infact any harness would only make gizzy pull even more.

Max wears a flat collar for training and for going to the dog park.  For regular walks we use a prong because he's a very strong puller otherwise. When we're walking, I clasp his regular collar around the handle of the leash so we'll have all his ID with us - just in case. I can't use both collars together because his regular collar is 1" wide and the prong just slips over it.

I've never used a collar only a harness.  I like that it pulls them from the body and not the neck.

When I first got Lizzie I went out and bought her this really cool flat Leopard print collar w/ matching leash. The collar is the one with the plastic snap, I preferr those ove the buckle collar because IMO they adjust better.

I got her a red Harness the other day and she likes it but because I have to tie her up when she is in her pen (she will escape if left loose) I have to use a flat collar because I have tied her with the harness and when I came home from work my mom told me Lizzie soent all day in her porch playing w/ the Golden because she got loose.

For around the house, Gypsy wears a light nylon flat, but choke-style, collar.  We use a small chain when we go out. How light is her choke chain?  It's her former show collar! I don't need anything heavier NOW.  When she was a rebellious teen, I needed a prong collar to keep her in line (my left hand was swollen and red for weeks without it![:-]).

I don't use any type of collar that has a plastic clasp on it.  Gypsy has broken several of these over the years.  I don't want to take chances with my baby!
