Very Scary Incident - CoBuHe

Cat bites are the worst, they do swell, and get really sore so that is normal keep a real close eye on it though.  Glad you got something for it too.  Hope your cat is okay poor little thing.  Hugs for all.

Oh Barb!  How scary.    I so hope that Rocky is okay.  I totally understand how you feel about the kitties.  I'm the same way & prolly for the same reasons.  It really stunk having to segregate species in my tiny house and I'm pretty sure they weren't too happy about it either.  Rocky is a very lucky little boy that Buddy wasn't in kill mode.  I'm picturing Buddy's thinking.  It goes something like this "must.kill.kitteh but wait, this kitteh smells familiar.  Must not hurt kitteh. Wait, I'm a dog, must hurt kitteh, but kitteh smells familiar.  So confoozed"

RE: your finger, try soaking it in epsom salts.  It's great for pulling out toxins.  Just add the salts to the warm water.  It's also good for bruising.

Wow, I am so sorry to read this. Thank goodness Rocky doesn't appear to be terribly injured. I believe you said it was your daughter who wanted to take the kitty... might not be a bad idea. Rehoming pets is hard but if you know he'll be in great hands and wanted, and not under the risk of bodily harm it may be for the best. Plus you can still see him! Sometimes it's just too hard with animals who don't jive.. especialy when one stands virtualy no chance. Whatever you choose I know you'll put thought and love into the decision, and it will be the right one.

Cat bites, OW! I got nailed by a stray, sick cat in a high Rabies area once. Post-exposure treatment sucked, but so did the bite itself! That high pressure/swelling feels so awful. Advil!

Um, Buddy....i don't think cats taste too good!  Do you think they would have done damage if you weren't there?  My dogs do the same thing if i'm not around but they don't bite hard....only mouth them.  Tessy absolutely hates it if the cat jumps up with us when we're snuggling adn will mouth her till she moves.  Looks like she's biting but she doesn't.  The others are the same unless I'm within sight or range...then they wouldn't dare.  LOL

Anywho, so good to hear Rocky is OK.  Hope the finger heals quickly for you.  I get them all the time and the odd ones really stings.

....shesh....first you show us the video of Buddy growling at Heidi and now this!  Are you purposely trying to turn us on Buddy?  hehe

See now this is exactly my thought too.  All it has taken before with strays is one chomp.  He could have easily killed him in two seconds.  I think he DID NOT because Rocky is familiar...is a member of the family.  Or at the very least....he knows Rocky belongs to the hoomans.  Its quite surreal, the more I think about it.

I know, huh.  Nah, you all know BudMan is a very good boy.  But, a dog he is.  And, if I hadn't been here and Rocky was out...likely it COULD have been worse.  I just can't say.  Having said that though....had I not been here, the dogs would not have been roaming free.

My finger is starting to hurt less.  Thank you Advil.  I soaked it in warm water...that felt good.  I shall do it again with Epsom salt...I have some.

Rocky is doing well...just less one life.  Tongue Tied

Yikes!  So glad it wasn't any worse.  Hope your finger is OK.

Cat bites Hurt! How scary for you Barb and poor little Rocky. I'm with Callie, I can't move fast enough to have dogs and cats who don't coexist. I'm very lucky that Toots has 0 prey drive, other wise it'd just be Toots. Rest easy Rocky and Barb.

Wow !  No doubt your heart was racing and your mind reeling !!

Glad things didn't end badly.  We feel very lucky that Baily is so mellow with the cats.

    Feel better !!!!

     wow!

so glad that Rocky is Ok and hoping you heal up swiftly

Now that the blue color and the swelling has subsided some, I can really see the bite.  It a full on B.I.T.E.  You can see the canines and all the way around including his incisors.  Blurry, but you can still see it.

    Dang, no wonder it hurts.

owwww... on all counts.  The Epsom salts seems like a good idea to me, too.

I'm very appreciative of the level head you kept, Barbara.  Anyone else who isn't this dog and cat savvy would have made the situation much worse, and thrown all kinds of judgements around.  These are animals and I think Buddy could respect that Rocky was not an intruder or plaything he could destroy.... if he destroyed your couch he'd be in trouble, so your idea that Rocky belonged to the "hoomans" and Buddy knew he ought not destroy Rocky could be very true.  You recognize each of your animals as ANIMALS and that is super important.  Two thumbs up!

I hope everyone heals up thoroughly.  Thank goodness the best take-aways here are lessons and new perspectives on your dogs (good for Buddy for not killing Rocky!)  Get some rest tonight, all!  (((hugs)))

Ouch indeed! I understand completely how scary that situation is Barb. I am glad everyone involved is ok/on the mend!

At Christmas we brought the dogs to my parents house with us (we don't usually, just because their house is small and they have a cat which isn't too used to dogs and we have Timmy who isn't used to cats). They usually have the cat locked in their room when we bring the dogs, just to be on the safe side. Turns out this time they forgot to lock the cat in the room and Timmy was the one who found the cat. We heard my mom screaming at him so DH ran into the kitchen and saw Timmy shoving the cat across the floor with his face, as soon as DH told Timmy to leave it, he did, but the poor cat was so shaken up - DH and I were terrified he might have hurt the cat internally - it was a big mess. I am so glad Timmy at least knew enough not to kill the cat, I think he was trying to "play" with it but has never played with a cat before so had no idea how to. His mouth never touched the cat - my best guess - since I just saw the end result was he went to sniff it and possibly lick it and the cat freaked out and attached itself to his face which resulted in Timmy pushing the cat across the floor which we saw. Good news - the cat is still very much alive and kicking.....we are never going to bring the dogs there again!

Yeouch! hope your bite wounds heal quickly and glad Rocky's ok.

I totally understand... I love cats, but dont' care to have them as indoor pets :(. So no kittys for me!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh man how scary! Just seeing this today and glad to hear your finger is getting better and that Rocky seems to be ok.

    • Gold Top Dog

Paige, thanks so much for your kind words.  The more and more I think about what happened; and realizing just how ugly it could have gotten, especially with the cat stuck in the gate....my heart just skips a beat.

The fact that Buddy dropped the cat when I told him too; the fact that neither Hooligan put their mouths on the cat...just makes me feel like I'm really doing something right with these dogs.  Smile

Stacy, I have this visual of Timmy walking around with a cat belly covering his face and all claws taking hold on the head.  Git dis ting off me Ma!

Man, I have never dealt with a cat bite like this before.  It's SORE!  And, I want to take Advil which would help the pain....but its an NSaid, which tears holes in my stomach lining (hiatl hernia) if I take too many.  AND, I can't have a darn drink...It sux to be me right now.  Big Smile
