    Is Royal Canin food okay?

Hi, my gsd pup is 8months old, and we need to switch him to an adult food.  I recently got a free bag of Royal Canin German Shepherd formula 24.  I originally wanted to switch him to Innova, but I thought, hey since i have this, why not give it a try.

My question is, has anybody heard of this food?  And is it any good?  I personally don't know much about this particular brand of food.

There you go. You can learn all about it, including the ingredients, on that page.

Looks okay to me. No corn, does use brewer's rice as a second ingredient but it's not terrible and seems pretty balanced. I'd say it's midway between something like Innova and Pedigree. Far better than the latter, not as good as the former.

If it were me, I'd go ahead and try it and see how he does on it. Don't know if I'd continue with it, it's up to you. I don't know how spendy it is. If he doesn't do well on it you can always donate it to the animal shelter.

I'm not a fanatic about dog food, I'm just a regular dog owner. [:D]

I fed RC when it was the very best I could get.  It's a mid grade food with a super premium pricetag.  In fact, in GA it was HIGHER than Innova.

Glenda, that's kinda what I thought, but I didn't know how much it cost.

I've been hearing some excellent things about RC lately, some dogs need what could be considered a mid-grade food and I'm starting to think mine are some of those. I've researched it and liked what I found, and priced it and found it very reasonable - about $13 less/35 lbs than Innova is for 33. What I'm trying to say is try is, see if it works and if it does stick with it.

When I left Savannah in February of last year I was paying 39.95 for a 33 lb bag of Innova....the RC was 42.50.  What any of it costs now I can't say....DS brings it home from work at cost and I don't have a Petsmart or any other big store in my town.

It's a great food.  They are listed in the American Dog Journal... listed in the top foods

I would definetly Feed RC if i couldn't get Canidae.  It is a good food, much, much better than brands like Ol'Roy, Pedigree and Iams

I hear ya Kelly.  June has one of those garbage guts.  With our last kibble change I took a hal-step down the quality scale, and she's doing much better.  ;)

Sooner thank you for the link to the thread, I read it and it has some very valuable information in it.  And thanks to everyone who replied.

So I fed some RC to our dog, Haygl, yesterday, and he LOVED it.  In fact, it was so good that the dog I'm dog-sitting for right now even gave up his own food to try some of Haygl's RC (don't worry, neither of them are food aggressive).  I'm hoping the new food would help with his gas issues... sometimes the whole room would just suddenly fill up with stink, and who's the culpit but the innocent little puppy napping on the floor.

Anyways, if it seems like I'm getting positive results from RC, I'll probably keep him on it for another bag or two then switch to something else.
