    Jump and Climb Proof Gates

    Greetings!

Hubby and I would like to extend some extra freedom to our Penny and get her out of the crate she hates a little more during the day. We have a great area to gate off to give her freedom to move around without getting into trouble. The problem is that she has a 4 1/2 foot jump and can climb the metal baby gates they sell at Wal-Mart. Can anyone direct me to a place that sells taller/no climb gates that we can get for her?

    Thanks!

I've heard of people using two baby gates, one on top of each other.

Two baby gates sounds like the solution to me. I think we're going to have to do that with Bella.  She knows how to open the baby gate, so I blocked it.  A couple days ago, I left some turkey necks on the counter. When it started to sound a little too suspicious down the hall, I raced down to catch her starting to go over the gate with a neck in her mouth. [sm=lol.gif][sm=no%20no%20smiley.gif]

You can make a half door.  Either build one with lumber or buy a hollow core door and cut it down to size.  Pretty easy to do, and you can just use one of those hotel safety locks to hold it shut.

We have 36" high gates which Max has figured out he can jump. Actually, he can only jump the one to the kitchen, because the others are at the top of stairs, so that makes it more than 3ft. Sorry,  I don't have any helpful advice for you, except well, maybe buy the highest gate you can to start. If you start out with something lower, the dog will definitely be able to jump it. Then, if you go higher later on, the dog will have gained experience and confidence with jumping over gates, so even if it's too tall for him when you first get it, he'll figure out a way to jump it.

We just got a puppy too.  The baby gates work for a while but puppies are crafty at climbing.
My husband went to Home Depot and bought an 1/8th thick masonite board, 2' X 4'.  It works great.  The board is high enough so the puppy can't jump over it and it's slippery so they can't climb it.  Good luck.  Wendy
