Senior Foster in with the pack update.

Just wanted to post his picture for all to see the old fella. Again many thanks to Anne, Mic and Jaime for your helpful suggestions. As you can see it worked. Since he has been accepted into the pack. He has got some giddi-up in his step, is an excellent watch dog for an old fart. Sleeps next to me at my side of the bed at night. Always ready to give me a happy wag of his tail and loves the attention he now gets from his new family to include better food, toys, treats and the company of the rest of the crew. His name was changed as there is already a Benny in the pack. He loves his new name of Freddie. For those of you who do not know. Freddie, was owned by an elderly man who was forced into a living assisted home and was unable to take his companion of 16yrs old. None of the vet's would PTS this dog because he other than blindness, is very healthy otherwise. And the gentleman was distraught over what he was going to do or how he was going to find a home for his buddy. I took him in to foster in hopes I could find another elder couple who might want him for what little time he may have left on this earth. Because of his age, being probably 18yrs old, nobody wanted to take that on because they felt they would get too attached to the old fella and hurt when he passed on.
As it turnes out, Freddie is doing well in my home and is already in his forever home.

    Ditto to everything RileysMommy said.

18 years old?  Wow- thats amazing!  He doesn't look like a realy tiny dog...  How big is he?  If he's as big as that picture makes him look it is really, really amazing that he is that old!

I was able to trace his records through the vet he used to see when his original owners got him. He was already 2 years old then and the owners had him for 16years. He is approx 40+ lbs now. When he was younger, he was marked at 50 lbs. He is truly amazing to say the least. Such a sweet old dog. I can see from his nails that he was not properly maintained nutriant wise. His dad gave me his bag of food which I threw away b/c he preferred my guys food over his. Smart dog.. Ole Roy is what he has been fed for his 16 years. YUCK!  He was extremely flat footed when I brought him home. I have noticed his pads are starting to plump up.
I had him HW tested, and found out he has them and at his age, I am not going to put him through such a harsh treatment. He was on preventative from what I can see on his records. The owner said he discontinued the stuff since he didn't see the point.
He is such a happy go lucky guy and quite the gentlemen too. Sweet old dog.

Awww, I love his startled face from the picture! Gave me a laugh!

I had a yellow lab that must have been 18 or so when she passed, a rescue, too. Sounds like Freddie has great personality! So glad you are giving him a nice place to live. [:D]

I think he is a lab/beagle mix. What do you guys think?

He does start out with an arrooo when he barks, that is what makes me think he has Beagle in him besides the white tip on his tail and saddle markings.

He has a wonderful personality. One that has won me over to love an old dog and respect him like I do.

As a personal note I want to say thanks for being so caring and special.
My heart is so soft when it comes to our four legged, furry friends. I wish I could win the Lotto, I would buy a huge ranch, shelter, and foster any unwanted pet that human society has cast aside like yesterdays garbage.
This is how I have come to sharing my home with 7 dogs, 2 cats and now 5 rescues. I need a bigger home to fill it with more fur and wet noses... [8D]

Kudos to you, Angel, for being a literal angel to Freddie and the human who loved him all those years.  You've got good genes, Fred!

Our Jesse, was a yellow lab mix who weighed 60 ish most of her life and was at least 18.5 when we helped her pass peacefully out of this life and she was the loveliest of dogs.  Freddies part of an elite and very special club!
