About 2.5 weeks ago while I was at work my daugther called me because she had talked to my friend. My friend told her that they were going to put one of their dogs down that day at 5 pm because it had killed the cat and some kittens. The dog is a retriever mix and had been found by someone almost starved. My friend took him in, took him to the vet, got his first set of shots, had him tested for heartworms and he was put on heartwormprevention. The charge for that day to put him down would have been $65 which incl. disposal. Needless to say I did not want that dog to die and I took off two hours from work, rushed over there, it's almost a 30 min. drive and I got the dog and brought it to my house with the understanding that she would continue to look for a home for him. She told my daughter the next day that she had called a couple places and that they were full. A few days later she told her that she would still pay for his last set of shots, the heartwormprevention and his neuter. Then at the end of last week her husband said he was not going to go through all of this and the new owner might decide to put him down afterall. My daughter called several shelters today and Petsmart stores and got a lot of phonenumbers. She called each one. Some were full, one was out of the county and could not take him and one wants his last set of shots, proof that he is heartworm negative and that he is neutered and they would put him in a foster home. The fee to take him without the neuter would be $100, with the neuter $50. Well, my daughter called my friend back and the answer was that it would be cheaper for her to put him down. I am speechless. We have also repeatedly asked for his heartwormmedicine and were told that he was out and she would get more at the vets. We have quite a few dogs of our own and we can not keep him. There is no way and I think I should not be the one to be putting money out either, but I am thinking now I need to try to get some money together to save him and give him a chance. Money, extra money I don't have on hand right now. I am so upset about this whole thing. It makes me so angry. By the way he is not even a year old. Will be around october according to the vet.
