I'm so happy and so is my dog!

I can't belive it! Gizmo is finaly dealing with her dog/dog agression in a way that I am so happy about. After months of obedieance training with a trainer and lodes of books I've read she has finaly proven what a truely good dog she is.

I took her camping this weekend and we went for a walk around other campsites where there were other dogs playing. She didn't even look at them. A chiwhawha came right up to me and the owner called it back but Gizmo didn't even growl. I had my pocket full of treats and was ready for any sudden outburst that she usally has but this time nothing!

She didn't bark much at all the whole time, only when she saw a cow off in the distance. She sleepted in the tent with me and let me sleep all night keeping my toes warm. Overall she did much better than I ever thought she would. Just a few months ago I would have never dreamed of even taking her to the mountains. I can't stop now, she still has more training and hopefuly she will start agility in a few months.

This is a breakthough, I'm so happy!

Nice going Gizmo! I'd love to know what worked best for you, because Millie is seriously aggressive.

Well my meathouds for the most part are just not giving up at the hardest parts. I owe most of this sucess to her trainer who has guied me on how to handel her when she's at her worse. There was a time when I thought she'de never get to this point, but with lodes of treats and training I've made it!

When anouther dog was around I started pulling out the treats and that took her mind off the other dogs. After I became more sucessful with the treats and calming her down I started adding commands when other dogs where in site so she had something else to concentrate on. The whole time making shure her eyes where on me and not the other dog. Each time getting closer to the other dog untill it was like the other dog was not around. The trainer really helped with the many privet lessions I took her to. She would bring out a dog and I would do my thing with Gizzy and the trainer got closer to me. The first few lessions it was the trainer and her assistant working with my dog but soom they had me be the one handling gizmo. She is currently in a group class which also helps her be around other dogs. It's really just taken much time to get where I am now but has been totaly worth all of it. I also like the book "Click To Calm" which helped me understand why she does what she does.
