    HELP!! I found a dog

This dog was running up and down the road this morning and almost got hit a dozen times. I got int eh van and got him to come in. He's very friendly. Not fixed, no collar, and has no house manners. I brought him in to put a collar on him and he pee'd in 3 spots. So I have him tied up in the shade outside. My husband will freak if I don't find the owners. I know everyone within 5 miles of here and have never seen this dog.

Any clue as to what he is, or how old he could be?

How big is he? Good for you in getting him off the road! Make sure you have some water out for him!

He looks like a JRT to me. And cute on top of that!

I suspect that he doesn't have an "owner" anymore and was dumped in a secluded area to "fend" for himself.

If you can't find the owner, how about you attach a large bomb to him and send him over to your neighbors?  [:)]

    Welcome back, btw.

    That's kinda what I'm thinking.

Oh Billy,  Thank you for making me laugh. Godd idea, but I could not hurt the little guy.

He looks to be about 20 lbs. Very yappy. He does not like being tied, but I know he will run. He will not come to me if I call to him, does not want to eat, drank water. He seems to be in good health, I'm surprised he is not fixed though. At least I don't think he is. Dogs no longer have testies when they are fixed right?

Me, too.  Looks an awful lot like the male JRTerror my folks had.  For your sake, I hope he's better behaved than Sammy was (Sammy had an  unpredicatable temperment, among other things).

Sounds like JRT behavior too.  And are you really surprised that someone wouldn't get their dog fixed?  Then when he has behavior problems like peeing in the house, that he got dumped?  It's pretty common for people, at least around here, to think, "Oh I'll just drop him off in the country and some nice family will take him in.  I don't have the heart to take him to the shelter."  But dumping him to get hit by a car, or suffer a dog fight, or get pregnant, or get worms and die a slow agonizing death is ok.  I hate people....

But good for you for catching him.  Take him to the shelter.

I would put up signs, contact the shelters, and maybe even take him in to have him scanned for a microchip. He's a cutie!

It's actually not really common for people to dump dogs around here. Cats yes, but never have I seen a dog that was actually without an owner, but then again thats how I came to get Sara.

I am a little worried about his temperment, I know small dogs are common for that.  He seems friendly, and happy, but I don't want the kids around him. He has not stopped barking, he really wants to be loose. I've called the pound and shelter, and had the 2 local stores here put up a sign. I hope he does have an owner, I would hate to bring him to the pound.[&:]

My jerk of a landlord just came over and says "You're not keeping that son of a B@#!%"  He also hates Sara.

I was just so mad that he would come here and speak to me like that. He's a drunk, and I wanted to tell him off so bad.

It's in the Landlord and tenant act here that a landlord can not tell you that you can not have pets. There is nothing he can do but complain about it.  What an arse.[:@]

If he's not fixed, I highly doubt that he'e microchipped.  But hey, stranger things have happened.

And, where do you live?  I want a landlord who can't tell me off for the pee smell in the house when I just brought home a cat that sprays everywhere as I'm making him an appointment to get neutered, and in walks the landlord spouting random crap about how he knows all about cats, no one can tell him anything new, and the smell is only a sign of neglect.  This as he's standing next to a couch cushion I just pulled off of the couch that has a nice stain on it and a really pervasive smell.

Anyway, nevermind. I have no intention of derailing the thread.

He's an absolute cutie, and I hope things work out for you, and for him!

That dog looks to be in excellent shape and like a pure bred dog to me, he may not be fixed because he is showing or breeding, and may have gotten loose when at a rest area for a pee break that's how I got my first pap they were on their way to a show. call the police too, the owners may, and I would ask the aspca or A/C or your vet to see if he's chipped. The newspaper will let you run a free ad, but be careful about how you word it, so you can make sure it's the real owner. I think he's a fox or rat terrier a friend of mine has one, and I can't think of the breed. I feel so bad for him.
Oh yeah and just because he peed in your house doesn't mean he isn't trained he smells your dog and probably the pups.

I agree with Deb, and having "found" a JRT before, I urge you very strongly to find the owners of this purebred dog. They get away SO easily. I am betting he's a show dog, that's why he's not neutered.

It may be a case of someone supposedly watching the dog while the owners are on vacation and he got away. Happens very often, that's how I happened to find and return both a border collie and a JRT. Both times the dog sitters didn't even TRY to find the lost dog!! [:@] It wasn't until the owners came home that someone started looking. I had to keep both dogs for a week before the owners found my signs.

As for signs: I had to put up signs all over the place and really do some work to get them back home. I'd hate to see this guy fall into the hands of puppymillers or worse.
