My proud moment

    My proud moment

I took both Boss and Gracie to the vet tonight. It was time for Boss' yearly rabies and distemper and it was time for Gracie's boosters.

I was quite proud of Boss. When we got there it was a little busy and dogs were coming and going. Boss hardly paid them any attention. When we got inside a woman had a pittie on a leash, and a pittie puppy in a laundry basket. Boss whined at them for a little bit, but then he surprised the heck out of me. I told him to sit and he did!!! There was 3 other dogs in the lobby at one point and 4 people and my boy sat down between my legs and leaned his head back against me! I was so proud!!!!

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that Gracie was in a small crate on the floor by my feet and I told him to sit down with Gracie, but it was just such a proud moment for me to have him listen and sit down so calmly while people were coming and going, other dogs were around.. Gracie was screaming like a drama queen in her crate.. and my baby sat!!!! Wooohooooo!!!!!!![:)]

And I have to brag on him for another minute. I have been trying at home to teach him to open the garage door, the regular sized door. It doesn't latch all the way and if he jumps up and pushes it, it will open. I've been trying to teach him that for when I have things in my hands and can't get the door open. Well, I'll be danged if he didn't do it tonight. We walked up to the doors at the vet's office and I had him on his leash and Gracie in her crate and Boss went up and jumped and opened the door for me!!

Awesome, but I always knew Boss was a good boy!  And, a gentleman too, opening doors!  Good job, Trish.  :)

What a neat trick to teach him... chivalry is, indeed, not dead [:D]

I have been very pleased with Boss' behavior since bringing Gracie home. He still has issues, but he listens better and enjoys his 'job' in taking care of Gracie.

If I tell him to go get her he will run to her and keep circling her until she follows him.

Last night the wind was really bad and broke my gate in the yard, and blew down a barrier I had put up until the back fence is finished. This morning Gracie headed straight for where the barrier fell down and thought she was going to explore beyond that. Boss heard me calling her, ran over to her and knocked her off her feet with his front paws! When she got up and tried again, he knocked her down again and then started playing with her until she followed him away.

Even my mom, who has been known to call Boss a hopeless a##hole when he's acting crazy has commented that he is so much calmer and pleasant to be around and that he listens so much better now.

    Yay, BOSS!!!

That's a pretty neat trick he learned there. I'll have to see if I can teach Romy to open doors for me.  [;)]

That's really sweet that he's such a good big brother to miss Gracie.
