    (((Sarah))) prayers to your Mom.

The weater service said it was -17 (real temp not wind chill) at 5:00 this morning when I got up.  Broke the record of -15 however a neighbor called and we were -20 in our little valley.  No water, pipes didnt freeze, just to darn cold to pump.  It is supposed to get to 21 today, that will feel very warm.  It is -14 right now.  Warm up starts tomorrow so I hope to go to work then.  Today is my sweet hubby's 64th birthday.  We will go out to dinner sometime next week as for today ??? not sure what I will fix him but he loved the BDay card from Hot and Rock :)

    Stay safe and warm everyone

I tried to post several times yesterday and kept getting the "oops"msg, so I gave up. It wasn't like I had/have anything remarkable to say.

Sarah - I'm sorry about your mom and I know you both must be very worried. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. What type of cancer is it?

Tina - I agree with the others about you not needing a separate gift. I hope you have a great time too.

It's still gorgeous and sunny here but chilly in the mornings. We're finally supposed to get some rain next week and we do need it. I have the Horse 101 class on Saturday and I was just hoping the weather would be nice that day and it looks like it will. I'm so excited about the class I probably won't sleep Friday night :)

Deb - I'm a goner too if the diet soda report is true but it's hard to take some of these studies serious anymore.

Sarah sorry to hear about the cancer coming back. hugs to you and your mom.

My team is on another search today and I'm getting some updates as the day goes on. Not looking good.

It's almost noon and I haven't had coffee yet. That's a problem that needs to be fixed!

I need to run to Meijers to pick up a gift card, hmm, maybe I'll get some baked chicken for lunch while I'm there. That sounds good!

Fingers crossed that this post makes it through!

    ((((Sarah and mom))))

    I miss Meijers.

Have done two returns and reorganized the file drawers since 10.  Can't stand mess and clutter so now I'm happy with my work area.

Sure wish people would quit wanting to open the doors to come inside....makes it very darned cold in my little cubby hole

Luke is back from the vet with a clean bill of health.  I've apparently done a good job of keeping him the same weight. 13.7 last time he went in, probably in the summer, and 13.8 this time. I pick my dog up frequently enough to be able to monitor his weight. I think the vet we saw today quicks nails more often than I am comfortable with, which is ever really. I have only once quicked any animal. I've cut rats, lizards, guinea pigs, cats and dogs. I told her not to do his nails if she didn't think she could go shorter than what I had them without quicking him, because I don't want to deal with it if she hurts him (more like, I don't want to fix the behavior problem if you quick him). She doesn't know how happy she should be she didn't quick him, cause I would have had a fit if she did after I said that.

Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom -- good thots and prayers for her -- she's got a BLUE sticky on my printer

plus I knew his whole family already (I lived with his aunt for 2 years), so not sure what is appropriate.  Also, the couple already lives together and owns their house, so are established

Honestly, I think the operative idea here is that you know his family.  "have to"?  probably not.  Would it be appreciated?  You betcha.  Even something small -- like a $10 gift card to a neighboring coffeeshop slid inside a card would be appreciated.  It all depends on how you want to be viewed -- as an old friend "who was a nice girl even when she lived with Aunt ____" or "oh yeah, he's dating her now".

Thanks everyone for the support and thoughts.  I am just trying to keep myself focused on work and not cry today, at least until I get home later.  It is anal cancer.  She had a tumor in Oct of 09 and finished 6 weeks of intensive and simultaneous chemo and radiation in Dec of 09.  The tumor doesn't appear anymore but her lymphnodes are now showing it.

Tina, I think that you would be OK to let his gift cover you, but if you want to give a gift, especially since you know the family well long before this, I would give something small and thoughtful.  Do whatever makes you feel good.  :)

Man Glenda, I am a little jealous.  I would much rather be doing taxes like you and everyone else in my office than 1099's!  I won't get to touch a return for a few more weeks and I always have to start with a set of partnership returns that are the hardest ones I do all year.  Nothing like kickstarting my brain into tax gear!

I would give my left arm to be able to wash my face like normal.

I'm feeling OK -- better each day but of course still leaves a lot to be desired.  Still don't think I'm going back to work until Monday though....

Might convince DH that I need more ice cream for lunch :)

wooohoo!  It's 20 degrees and I have water again.  Living in the country we are prepared for things like no water or electricity.  The trick is to keep the house warm enough so the pipes dont freeze and conserve your firewood so that if the electric goes out you have plenty.

Thank you, Deb.  You'd best beware of any Valentine chocolate that you might get with my return address on it.  Devil

Sarah, good vibes coming for you and your mom.

I'm not going to worry about the diet soda report.  I've been drinking it for so long I should have been dead long ago.  Besides, the report didn't say anything about what the people in the study were eating while they were drinking their diet soda.  Maybe they figured that if they were drinking something with no calories, it was OK to have a triple cheeseburger with three slices of bacon and an order of fries with it.  I've seen people in coffee shops put artificial sweetener in their coffee and then eat a pastry the size of their head.

The sun is out again and the wind finally stopped!  I think it's around the mid 40s.
