Happy New Year, everyone.
Spent NYE at home, fell asleep around 10:30 woke up around 2 am and went to bed. Made Texas Caviar this morning and some chopped cabbage to put it on. Texas Caviar is black-eyed peas with some spicy kick to it. The recipe we use is from the magazine Saveur. Anyway, chopped jalapeno or serrano pepper. Chopped red onion. Chopped garlic. Chopped cilantro. Red wine vinegar. Olive oil. Fresh ground black pepper. Mix well and chill. Chopped cabbage with some chopped onion in it. We eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day for good luck.
Did a new version of an old favorite song of mine. I can never get the tone of Bon Scott. Which is probably good. So, I decided to do this song in the style of Ronnie James Dio, who passed away in 2010 from stomach cancer. I am still saddened by that. As big as his voice was, his heart was even bigger. He only stood about 5' 3" but he was a giant among men. In the heavy metal genre, in music in general, and as a human being concerned more with others than himself.
I don't sound like Dio but I can sing in his style, quasi-operatic. So, I sang this song the same way I sang "Rainbow in the Dark." So the phrasing plays hob with the timing but it still fits. But what if he had covered an AC/DC song?
So, here's some road music. My theme song, of sorts.
