Border Collie (mix) Question

    Border Collie (mix) Question

I was wondering How big can a Border Collie (mix) get?
I'm looking into adopting a dog, and this dog seem to interest me, but the only problem is that I can't have a big dog because our home is small. So I was wondering how big can a female Border Collie (mix) get?
    Thanks!

I suppose it depends on how big the dog she's crossed with is.[:D]  I have a mix who a few people think is part border collie. She's 57 pounds, 25" tall, & 24" long.  Yours could be significantly smaller if it's mixed with something small. [:D]

I'm not sure about this dog. I planning to call and ask them how many Lbs she is. I hope she not that big. (she above knee level). But that is somewhat big though. I heard an average weight of  BC dog is 30-45, I wonder how big that is. I can't have those large dog (for example: adult labrador retriever(sp?)).

Well, for comparison's sake, a female Lab would weigh 55-70 lbs, so that's significantly bigger than a BC. But if this one is a BC/Lab, she could easily be around 50 lbs, give or take....

Like has already been said, it in large part can depend on what the dog is mixed with. My BC Mix appears to be mixed with something houndish, but she only weighs about 25 lbs. How old is she?

My Bree comes up (height wise) an inch or so below my knee, and I'm 5'8".

Tasha is around 48 pounds to give you an idea of size.  And she's lanky, 21 inches at the shoulder.

Yes, it definitely depends what the dog is mixed with. Grey is a border collie mix (mixed with what, I don't know...dinosaur, maybe lol), and he's 100 lbs, and nope, he's not overweight. He's a little taller than my lab and solid as a rock.

Sandra, would you mind posting some pics of your BC/Beagle Mix? I have been postulating that Bree may have some beagle in her, and I'd be interested to see your dog!

We think Odie is part BC.  He weighs 65 pounds.

Are you aware of the exercise requirements of Border Collies?

Billy touches on something tough to consider. Border Collies, and even mixes, can be much, much more than just "energetic". There is a lot that comes with having a BC, and you are going to want to be in the know about that. I recall in another thread you mentioning that you like to relax at the beach, and think you'll take your dog there while you relax. I hate to break it, but if you take a BC to the beach you're going to be throwing a ball, frisbee, or other object, and most likely running on the beach WITH the dog.

The energy level, personality, and requirements varies widely between BC's. My purebred BC is the most sensible dog I have. My BC Mix is the most DIFFICULT dog I have (in many respects).

My suggestion would be to find a BC rescue in your area, and work with them to find an older rescue (over 1 year) so that you already know its requirements and size, so you can figure out better what the fit will be. A lot of NICE mix BC's come through rescue. ;)

I have a border collie mix.  Don't know WHAT she is mixed with - not beagle, tho.  Could be part terrier according to my vet.  She's 37 lbs, about 20-21" tall, wirey, very strong and fast as lightening!

Oopsie hehe, I should rephrase that, I like to spend my time at the beach,  I do not mind running around playing with the dog, Something fun and active.. i do not mind at all.

I think I found one, the BC that I wanted I believe it been rescued, and it is a year old/female BC and what i think is a good thing is that it currently living with a foster home, so I can ask them about the dog living style, the temperament(sp?) and they know the dog personally because they spent time with the dog.
I'm just afraid that when i go visit the dog, It going to be a big dog, and my heart going to be broken because I wanted a BC, But I'm still going and try to adopt it hehe.
