Happy Gotcha Day, Evil, Rotten, Baby Girl

I remember her story, and loved hearing her progress. Go Cher!!!

Thank you all for the kind comments.  It took me over 30 minutes to get through the thread, but I've cried my way through it.

I want to thank all of you for your support throughout the past year.  There were times when I didn't think that I was making progress with Cher.  A few different times, it was your kind comments & supportive words that kept me committed to her.  I will never be able to fully express just how much you all helped us on this journey.

BTW? Amanda didnt Cher have a sibling that was also rescued by a Vet tech...I am getting old but seems like there were 2, lol.  Any updates?

Cher does have a sister, Ruby, who was dumped at animal control in late June after breaking with demodex.  She lives with the vet tech who introduced me to Cher.  Ruby is not nearly as stable as Cher.  She has some fear issues, & she is dog aggressive.  Her owner is doing a good job trying to help her work through her issues, but it has been an uphill battle.  After spending time with Ruby, I am forever grateful that the pos owner dumped Cher as a puppy, before they had time to do lasting damage to her.

What an amazing transformation. Happy Gotcha Day Cher!

I don't think I've ever seen such an amazing transformation... Cher has some such a long way, and she is looking GREAT. That last picture of her says it all. She is the luckiest Dobe ever to end up with you. Happy gotcha day Cher!

I didn't know Cher's sister was dumped too... Good thing Cher got out of there when she did. What a POS owner, I'm glad her sister got out of there.

WOW! I was not here when you got Cher but I want to say what a wonderful thing you did for her. She is gorgeous! Love that last picture and the group shot.

A question if you do not mind. What do you have to do to get a dog better from Demodex?

A question if you do not mind. What do you have to do to get a dog better from Demodex?

Different people treat it in different ways.  There is no right or wrong way to treat a demodex dog.

Cher's skin was very badly infected.  The first 10 days that she was here, you couldn't touch her without making her bleed.  It was just an unfortunate fact of life.  We had "Cher towels" that we wrapped her up in, so that she could snuggle with us without making a huge mess all over us or the furniture.  She was on antibiotics for 8 weeks.  During that time, she underwent a skin biopsy & culture to help determine what antibiotic would be most effective in clearing the infection.

As far as actually treating the demodex, I opted not to use drugs.  Instead, I used a system of baths, rinses, supplements, & a high quality diet to clear her skin up.  It was a lot of work, but it worked very nicely for her, & I didn't have to stress her system further, with additionaly drugs.

Sambob, if you want specifics on exactly what I used & what routine I followed feel free to pm me.  I'll be happy to provide you with further information.  I am always a bit uncomfortable posting specifics in a thread for fear that a lurker, or passerby may half heartedly read my post, & try it, incorrectly, on their own dog.  I don't want to inadvertently hurt someone else's dog by posting info on an open forum.

I can't believe it's only been a year?! Seems like she's been part of your pack forever. And what a transition for her too. I remember following her story when you brought her home. What a lucky little girl!  Happy Gotcha Day!

    • Gold Top Dog

Ok, IDK how I missed this!! Happy (belated) Gotcha Day, Cher!!!!

Aw I'm so late to this thread but Happy Gotcha Day Cher! You're such a beautiful girl and I'm sure your mom is just as lucky to have you as you are to have her. :)

Happy belated gotcha day Cher!  You have turned into such a beautiful dog, the transformation is amazing!  I also cannot believe it's been only a year, and I bet Cher feels like it's been forever since she was lucky enough to join your pack.

Wow the last pic is Cher?  That's amazing!  I was quickly scrolling through and thought it was Bevo at first glace (no offense, Bev).  She looks like a different dog.

    He should be flattered!
