This day is going great. Got to work only to realize my badge is not where I keep it in my car so I can't get in to the bldg or the parking garage.

That reminded me of when I worked downtown and had just started at the Dept. of Ed. One night I came out to leave and my badge just wouldn't work and I couldn't get my car out. I'd already worked a longer than usual day and was so tempted to ram thru the gate but instead had to go inside and find a guard who let me out.

Tina and Jackie - I'm so glad you both had a great time.

Thanksgiving at SIL's yesterday was really nice. I think I may have stuck my foot in my mouth with my MIL though. She mentioned something about Sarah Palin running for pres. and I started making jokes. It didn't take to long to realize that MIL was a fan and had been serious. I'm still shaking my head over the whole thing.

I don't know what to do about Sassy but I think a trip to the vet's might be in order. This pacing around looking for a place to sleep at night hasn't stopped and yesterday she started acting just fearful. I decided to brush out her fur since she usually loves that and she actually was visibly shaking while I did it. She settled after a bit but it was really strange. Then this morning, when I went to leave, she seemed panicked again. I usually put her food down and then back the car out and put the door down. She normally won't even turn away from her food but lately she's started to follow me out and this morning she did. When I opened the car door to put her back in the garage, she wanted to climb in. I had to turn the car off, put her back in the garage, close the door and go in the house and out the front door. I just don't understand what has caused this but the first thing I want to rule out is her thyroid meds being out of whack. I probably should've posted this in the health section and maybe I will just to get more feedback :)

Sounds like most of you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving, but are having a hard time getting back into the "groove".  I have the 2 x 4 and Vodka standing by in case anyone needs them.

My Thanksgiving was pretty good also.  The food from Wegmans was surprisingly very good.  I'm always afraid it's going to be too bland because it's so un-PC to properly season with salt and pepper.

It was also nice to have Kate around for company.  We tend to crack each other up so we really have a good time together.  I do think I kind of over did it being upright for most of the weekend  . . . so will have to lay low for the next couple of days.

I'm boiling up my turkey carcass right now in hopes of some great soup later on.  It's really cold, so it's a good day for soup.  Plus, I could really do with eating a little lighter after this holiday.

With the exception of Turkey Day and yesterday, I ended up working a bit each day during my 4 day "break". Today, I broke down crying about work. Ari makes a great tissue lol. She scooted up near me and we had a cuddle until I felt better. There are some days I really hate my job and the lack of control I have over certain aspects (which are nicely enough the most important ones). I really just really hate irresponsible people who simply don't care whether or not they do something they signed up to do! There's nothing negative that happens to them, but I get reamed out!

I also realized I never mailed out my secret santa stuff. Glenda feel free to beat me. It'll go out tonight or tomorrow morning. I feel terrible about that too. Can we say pity party, party of 1?

I am glad most of you had a good Thanksgiving!

DH and I had a nice weekend with his brother, SIL and kids. We went hiking and had snowball fights and we took the kids to see the Festival of Lights here in town. Christmas is looking like it will be good this year :) LOL.

This morning, Timmy decided that he was, in fact, able to sneak. I was trying to keep him out of the office because the futon was still down and made into a bed from the kids sleeping in there and I didn't want dog hair all over the blankets, but Timmy really wanted in. I told him out several times, he'd go out, then he would start sneaking back in, ever so quietly, refusing to make eye contact, despite me staring directly at him. The last time he tried to sneak in, he might as well have been one of those cartoon dogs tip toeing with crazy shifty eyes, I gave up and started laughing at him, which was when the butt wiggles and kissing started. He is cute.

Seeeeee???  Sharon, first you are off the beating hook since the deadline is Tuesday latest, but that's exactly how I feel when someone doesn't honor their SS commitment and we have to scramble for volunteers to fill in.  But, again, please don't feel badly because you haven't missed the deadline yet.

I'm trying to switch the office to the guestroom and the other way around without using the right shoulder one little bit.  Good thing my legs and butt are still strong!  The office style 3 drawer file cabinet is a bit on the hefty side!

Cathy, Rascal does that a little bit when he's feeling particularly ouchy with arthritis. Maybe the cold weather is triggering something for Sassy? I hope you guys get it figured out and it turns out to be something minor!

You know what? I was typing out a response about how she doesn't have any outward signs of arthritis but as I typed it all out, I started thinking about some of the really minute ways she might be exhibiting it and I'm chalking it up to other stuff. Like the shaking when I brushed her. Maybe she really did hurt and there were a couple areas that I brushed around her shoulders where she kind of flinched but I thought she was just tense in general. Hmmmmm...I'm so glad you mentioned this cause my thinking was going in completely different directions. Thanks!

I hope it helps!! With Rascal it can be really ambiguous too. But I rode a horse for a while with really serious back problems, and he'd do the same thing when you put a saddle pad on him (flinching if he was sore, because he anticipated the pain). It's a lot less subtle when it's a giant horse doing it instead of a 7 pound dog! For Rascal, I give him lots of neck/back rubs and keep him warmer than usual (more pillows/blankets for him to sleep on) and it seems to help. He also has a strict, self-implemented stretching regime (no joke) which he does for about 1 minute every time he gets up!

Sorry, but Rascal's routine sounds humorous, and  I can't help but laugh at the poor guy.

I'm not covering for the person today, but I didn't text back to her. I ended up falling asleep this morning. It happens when I get cold.

Something on my computer keeps beeping like a smoke alarm. I don't know what's up with that.

Just as an FYI -- I'm betting Cathy's Sassy is having thyroid issues - it's not at all uncommon for an older dog to suddenly need LESS supplementation for thyroid.  It can happen gradually OR fast and it can also cause all sorts of discomfort like really nasty diarreha or IBD symptoms and it can cause some hypertension symptoms (which sounds like Sassy).

I'm very inclined to think it's the thyroid too and thanks Callie for educating me on how a dog can go from being hypothyroid to less-hypothyroid as they age. Her behavior is very similar to when she first went on meds several years ago and she acted like she was on speed. It was alarming enough then that I took her back early and had them retest her. She settled after a few weeks but if she's high again this time, I know that time isn't going to help. I've emailed her vet to get her in today or tomorrow.

Cathy, it boggles my  mind too when I find someone who's actually serious about this.  I mean ... the woman walked away from her term as governor.  Does that bode well for someone who aspires to be president? Oh well, what the heck do I know?  We elected Bush and Schwarzenegger to second terms.  What does that say about our collective brilliance?  Hope the issues with Sassy get worked out. It would be so much easier if they had some way of telling us what hurts.

I made myself bite the bullet last night and get started on Christmas cards. Once I get started I'm OK - it's just making myself start when I'd rather be in the recliner with a nice, hot rice bag vegging out in front of cheesy romance/holiday movies on Lifetime or the Hallmark channel.

Uh oh.  Great.  Now Wellness is advertising on TV.  Blue over expanded their line (IMHO) and started TV advertsing and their product went straight nonhill (again IMHO)

I managed to make it through the entire day without ticking my shoulder off at all.  Wahoooooo!

    • Gold Top Dog

Although I do not feed Wellness, as long as they do not change their formula, I don't think getting word of their food "out there" is a horrible idea. Many average pet people do not browse ingredient lists or peruse the internet for info on what to feed. If they don't hear about a food, they're (from my experience) going to feed what they are familiar with. Foods like Purina, Science Diet and the like are NOT good foods, but they're the ones advertising and getting the name of their foods out there.

I cannot count how many times I've had to explain what food I feed, why it is a good food, where to buy it, etc.  People just haven't heard of it. Even otherwise pet savvy people.

If they don't change their formula and it gets someone to dump the Science Diet and get their pet on a better food, I'm all for it
