Shes home!

    Shes home!

We're finally home! Lilith is really sweet, playful and boy is she a chewer! Before we could even leave town to head home we had to buy her a Nylabone lol. And she did pretty well on the drive home. Slept on my lap for small part of it then in the crate for the last couple hours- she hates the crate lol. But I was actually surprised, she calmed down after only a few minutes in it and then every 30min or so started up again and quited down fast. She is a 'nibbler' she loves fingers and bites hard, but thankfully she is easy to re-direct and responds well to 'eh eh'. She is super cuddly too, when you hold her she cuddles right in and gives kisses, but the second you put this girl down she is doing zoomies lol. She is also super curious and the way she looks at things is so different, like she is thinking about what the toys does or something before she touches it then she just goes nuts lol. Skyline and Rickards are avoiding her right now. They just aren't interested in her yet, however Lilith is VERY interested in them lol. But they just run away lol. We do have lots of areas gated off so kids and poms can get a break from Lilith when they need it. But ya, first little bit home and things are going pretty good. Anywho, I just took a quick couple pictures of her with my cellphone on the drive home and then one home. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get a few of her playing around the backyard if she stays still long enough lol Smile

Oh and she totally peed on me when she was on my lap in the van LOL

Thanks guys Smile Lol I know shes a retriever, just wasn't quite expecting to need to have a toy  with me when I picked her up lol. Stick out tongue

Quick question though, Lilith, being a puppy and all is super playful and wants to play with Sky and Rickards. But Sky is not used to a 'play with me NOW!' kinda dog. So Lilith is sort of pushy about it and Skys growled at her and nipped. Should I be removing Lilith or let Sky correct her for being too pushy? Or just put Skyline in one of the gated off places to give her a break?

ETA- She finally fell asleep so I took a couple more pictures of her Smile

Okay I'm off to bed, I have a feeling I'll be getting up a few times tonight, might as well get as much sleep as I can lol

There was another thread (that got derailed onto this subject) so I'm gonna guess that there's going to be controversy over it. My personal opinion? I think dogs need to learn their boundaries with other dogs. Normally, I let my dogs tell each other off. If the other one refuses to back off, then I'll step in. But both of my dogs are let out while I'm gone so they need to establish a way to communicate without me ALWAYS stepping in. Just my opinion.

Generally I let my dogs set their boundaries with the puppy. I will intervene if it looks like she's not heeding their warnings. No need for them to be annoyed.  I almost always have to intervene for Newt, as she will not tell the puppy off. Poor thing gets her head slobbered on.

Oh my, she's even cuter now that she's yours!   Big Smile  I'm completely in love with her.

I let my dogs correct Gabby when she's being too pushy.  I will intervene and put Gabby away when it's obvious that she's worn our their patience. Each of my dogs interacts differently with Gabby and their levels of tolerance are different too.

I had to quote this since it's exactly what I wanted to say. For the record, Jackson's now 10 1/2 months old and still gets put away when he's worn out their patience.

I did run into a problem for a while where he wasn't taking corrections from the girls. That's when I increased his training time so even if he didn't like what they had to say, he still listened to me.

    Oh she is beautiful!!

I had to quote Jackie too.  This is what I do with Finn.  He can be quite overbearing to Max since Max has been slowing down a lot and to Benny who is quite smaller than him.  When I first brought Finn home, he thought Benny's tail was the best toy in the world and Benny, to my surprise, did very little to stop him.  Benny is usually more intolerant of these things, so I was a little thrown off and had to intervene often.

But enjoy her!  She sounds like she will be lots of fun!

You should have warned us - she's even cuter now!  Love the b&w pics!

OMG!  I'm a gonner.  She's sooooooooooo cute.  I think you're going to want to remember how sweet & innocent she is while she's sleeping when she's being a puppy.

I'm with pretty everyone else.  I WISH I had let G get told off by other dogs.  I really didn't understand what was going on when I first got him.  I guess the ay I look at it is 1) if there's no blood, we're fairly okay; 2) if they get too nudgey you CAN separate them.
