How does your dog tell you that he has to go out?

When you've lived with them for any length of time you kind of know when they are gonna need to go.

    Amen.

My dogs just plain old flat out don't ask to go - unless it is a dire emergency (ie somebody's tummy is upset).  We have a tight, solid, predictable schedule, even on weekends.  Although I have a doggie door that they are free to use at any point when I am home, they typically don't - they hang around and wait for me to suggest we go out.  No accidents either.

Maggie asks to go out in a few different ways, depending on how bad she has to go.  Most of the time she whines softly and hits the door with her paw, but if she really has to go she will whine really loudly and hop around in circles.

Mine are on a regular schedule, but if they REALLY need out:

Shaq will sit down in front of the TV and moan loudly.

Marley will press her nose to the back door. If I don't see her she gives just one bossy little bark, and that's it.

My dog use to just sit in front of the door and look at you. If you didn't notice him, he would pee on the floor. We hung a bell on the door and within the first day he was ringing it to go out. Now he rings it everytime he wants outside.[:)]

I ask my dogs "Do you have to take a ****?" and if they do, their ears perk up and they run to the door. If they don't, they ignore me. It's quite funny. They may not roll over, play dead, retrieve the newspaper, cure cancer but they know what "take a ****" means. [:D]

LOL, Becca. Emma slams doors like flyball boxes, too. She and Ben must be related.... She's *broken* a couple of plastic bowls, slamming them near me, so now we just use stainless. We have a no-slip water bowl in the kitchen, that she can't pick up, so she digs like there's no tomorrow, in that.... She's a nut[sm=crazy.gif]

Usually I just let Bear in and out on a regular basis, I have a fenced backyard.  But sometimes if I wait too long, he'll come right to me and sprawl on top on me and lick at my face or elbows.

Zoe barks when she needs to get out.  A lot.  And Loud.  But sometimes she lies, which drives my sister nuts!  [:D]  What a funny doggie.
