Amy, thanks for sharing that. I have heard that song before, live, & knew what it was about, but it was really cool to get to hear the commentary of the writers.
Congrats on the new granddaughter Joyce!
Annie, before you give up & replace plumbing, check overstock.com. We bought our sink/shower fixtures from them for a fraction of the price that traditional stores charge. They had a huge selection when we were shopping, so it might be worth a try.
The houseguest is with his dad for the weekend, & the boys are at their grandmother's so DH & I have a weekend alone. Well except for the fact that DH has to be at a Meet the Artist thingy tomorrow, & Cher & I have schutzhund training.
Anyway, we decided to go out to eat tonight. We were sitting on the patio at one of our favorite bbq places, when I see a guy holding a sign that says "Hungry. Please Help." I have a weak spot for people who are hungry, & I frequently as a homeless person to have lunch with me. I know that I can't fix their situation, but at least I can see to it that they have one good meal that day. DH hates that I do this, & it almost always causes an arguement, but I still do it. Tonight was no different.
We had just arrived, when I saw that guy, so Cher & I walked over to ask him to join us for a meal. His reply was "I don't want a meal. Just give me some money." I told him that I didn't give money, but that my husband & I were eating on the patio, 10 foot away, & that he was welcome to join us. He called me a bitch, & told me that if I really wanted to help him, I would just give him money. At that point, I was annoyed, so I pointed out the fact that he had track marks all over his hands & arms, his teeth were rotting out of his head & that he looked like death warmed over because of him being about 40 pounds underweight. I told him that his sign indicated that he needed a meal, & that I was willing to provide that but I was not willing to pay for him to get high yet again. I went on to tell him that, by the way he looked, I might just be feeding him his last meal because he looked like he was about to drop dead at any moment.
Cher & I turned around to go back to our table, & I realized that I must have gotten a little louder than I had thought because everyone on the patio was staring. About 30 seconds after I sat back down, the guy walked over & sat down with us. He asked if I really thought that he was going to die soon, & asked if my offer still stood. We fed him, talked with him, & took him to a homeless shelter that will help drug addicts.
I can't get him out of my head. I really hope that he gets the help that he needs.
