FRIDAY YAHOOOO chatter

Today is my DH's 29th birthday. Where does the time go? When we met he just turned 21!

We ordered flowers last night for DH's friend who passed. It was sad, made it more real. DH still isn't going to NY- but I think he should. We're going up there in November, so he said he'll visit the family then.

Ann, I'm so sorry you're feeling that way.  Special comfort hugs on both issues that are troubling your heart.

Amanda, I'm also sorry you didn't get notified sooner of your friend's passing.  I hope you find a way that feels comfortable to honor his passing.

Tina & Cathy- my friend Marilyn really wants to see Secretariat, too.  I'm going to offer to dog-sit so she and her husband can go see it.. but then I don't have anyone to go w/me.  Maybe I can join you guys?

DH has agreed to go with me. I'm excited for him to see the ranch and operation for himself.

Sweet!!!  That will be so nice for you when you come home from volunteering and he has a clue who/what you're talking about! :)  That's great support from him.

It's finally a nice sunny fall day here.  Gracie has discovered that Bugsy & Sylvie get raw bones.. and has confiscated one for herself.  She's outside w/it now, lounging in the sun.  She's sure she's hit Shangri La around here..

Sorry for everyone's losses this week.

My friend is pestering me to help her write something, and I don't really feel like it. She needs to freaking learn how to do this stuff herself, and not come running to me every time she has to write things. I gave her a some topic ideas, helped her formulate said topic into a question as she needed it to be, and gave her some search terms she would need to find this subject in the relevant journals. Now she wants help to do her citations (and I told her to take out her manual, which I gave her because I accidentally ordered two and it was easier than returning it), and writing a literature review. I said google, "how to write a literature review?" Wasn't I nice?

    Define "good"  Devil

ETA:  Barbara, I'm not sure that I can handle the 10 gauge.  It is huge.  As in, it doesn't even fit in any of the gun safes that we currently have.

Mercy I'm tired this morning.  David's been working late late late again this week and I won't eat and go to bed without seeing him, so I wait so we can have dinner together.  Just creeping up on me (old timer's disease mebbee??)

Ann -- some anniversaries are tough (and sometimes they always stay tough).  So ((Ann))!!

Amanda -- gosh I'm sorry you found out "too late".  I'm sending "zoom" thots for the flowers!

I dragged Davey to too many movies early in the summer (and I may pay forever for dragging him to Marmaduke -- even IF it had the Romantics dog video of all time at the end of it!! LOL) -- but I may not get him to a movie til Harry Potter comes out LOL

It has begun to cool down here - altho typical Floooordaaa, we went from 100 degrees to 70 in about 3 days.

Coming out from under my rock to say hi to everyone. Seems like fate that I ran across this again today. Thought I'd share, just a warning, have a box of tissues handy: Angel Flight.

    *hugs* to everyone

Julie, the City Forest in Midland used to have a totally awesome tobaggan run.  Two actually.  Wooden steps up, more like a huge ramp, and then attendants to help load teh tobaggan and hold it and help the people.  And, then, give a huge shove down the ice covered track.  Rinse and repeat at the other end.  Great ice rink, warming house, the whole nine yards.  The only place in all the places I've lived that had formal tobaggan runs like that.  What a blast that was as a child.

I too am sorry for everyone's losses.

I hadn't ever seen that before. It's a beautiful tribute. Thanks for sharing it and thanks for the tissue reminder.

I've never been to the city forest before so this will be a new park for me. I hear it is nice. When I firs heard the name though I thought "couldn't they come up with a better name?" Lol very uncreative! (I always get a kick out of road names and park names and such. I try to guess the origins of why something is named the way it is).

Muskegon state park has a huge taboggen run too. I have never been to it in the winter though, only in the summer. It has big curves and all that. Its supposed to be pretty fun.

Woo hoo!  My new heating system AND air will be installed next Tuesday.  In spite of my reluctance to put in a heat pump, I chose it...he said they are greatly improved, and this has a switch to use it as an electric furnace when needed.  So hopefully I won't have to worry about it crashing anytime soon!

From yesterdays thread, which I didn't make it to:

Cita, I was always taught that there wasn't any such thing as a stupid question.  A teacher who makes fun of someone for asking any question at all will probably make that person feel like never asking another question again. Indifferent

Jackie, Schwan's frozen bread dough is THE BEST.  And it only takes 14 minutes.  You can't beat it.

Since there's no way in he!! I'm going to lay out $500 for a 7 ft. tall "Mortimer the Butler"  I went to World Market and bought a black rose stem with black leaves and a skeleton head where the rose should be for $3.99.  I planted him in pot on the front porch.

And .... I saved the best news for last.  I have a brand new granddaughter, Alyssa Rose, born yesterday afternoon ... 20-1/2" and 8 lbs. 9 oz. It will be nice to have a little girl since I've been suffering from testosterone poisoning for quite a while. Big Smile

    Congrats, Joyce!

Sone-jay only took a half hour nap this afternoon. That means she's going to be tired and cranky this evening. *sigh*

I bought Willa a winter jacket at Shopko today. I wanted to get matching snowpants, but of course they didn't have them in her size. The teenager employee I asked said they might be getting in a new truckload in a few days. I'm pretty sure the 60% off sale ends tomorrow. Confused I'm keeping the tags on just in case. It's actually a girl's xxs, it was the same size as the 4T, but a much nicer/sturdier fabric.

I'm going to Target on Monday (1 hour away) to see what they have.
