eight below (no spoilers)

Does anyone have any information about the "true story" that inspired this movie? A google search didn't bring anything up. I saw the movie last night and really loved it (except for all those boring bits about the humans).

Its loosely based off a Japanese movie called "[linkhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085991/]Nankyoku Monogatari[/link]" It came out in 1983 and like "Eight below" is essentially a "dog vs. nature"movie. Nankyoku Monogatari is sadder though, but I won't spoil the plot if you wanna see it.

I made the same mistake with the movie "Dawn of the Dead..." Don't watch the new one and than the old... HAHA!
