    Sunday Funday Chat

What? It's 8:30 and there's no chat yet. Have a fun Sunday, gonna post and come back to make sure there's not someone else posting one right now.

So, I only have to work for 4 hours today. That's sort of fun. Ok, sometimes it is fun.I am not looking forward to tomorrow morning working though. Someone is coming out to observe one of my clients. I used to work for this person briefly, and was terminated in what was the weirdest interaction ever. She hired me almost right away after interviewing, calling my references, and watching me work a little bit. I never really did any more direct work with clients. She never told me of anything I wasn't doing right, needed to improve, etc., just told me it wasn't going to work out. We've seen each other since then, and it was all fine and all, but this feels weird. I didn't want to tell the parent no though, that I wouldn't work with this person, because I didn't want to be the one to be a jerk or anything.

Stephanie, glad to see over on facebook that your brother is mostly ok.

Candace, yay, everyone is getting out tonight.

Meg, I'm trying to remember where Annie lives in relation to Hershey. Or for that matter really where she lives at all. I remember which way I went to get home, but I don't remember too much about it.

Yesterday, I was out with my mom. I rarely ever drive when I'm out with my mom, because she critiques all the time. Ummm... I'm 25, I've only ever once gotten a ticket, and I have never been in an accident. I think that speaks to me not being too bad of a driver.

Good morning all.  Been a lazy morning and I haven't really started doing much yet.

Yesterday we were off in search of an inexpensive dresser for DS.  We did find one, but along the way I found an awesome old sewing machine table for $1.29!!!  It was marked $35, marked down to $10 and had the additional sticker on it.  Since under the law they have to sell it for the price marked........but, I did donate the balance of the 10 bucks.  It was Goodwill, after all.......

So for a whooping $18. I got a cool old sewing table that I'll put in the corner of the diningroom for my herbs, and DS got a very servicable dresser.

We still had a gift certificate, so we did lunch out, hit a couple farm markets, just goofed off all day basically.  What a nice feeling!  And all THREE of us got out together, which hasn't been happening lately.

So, today there is work to be done, but, with a refreshing break like yesterdy, thats ok.  I'm ready for it.

Glenda, that's awesome! Sounds like a great day!

BF's parents came to visit Friday-Saturday - on Saturday we all took the train into NYC and saw a Broadway show! We saw "In the Heights," which was totally awesome. We did the waiting in line for 1/2 price tickets thing, which was actually way faster and easier than I'd thought it would be. We waited for maybe 20 minutes? It was nice getting out and about and having company.

L Michelle - I hope you had a FANTASTIC wedding!!! I hope everyone behaved themselves!

Candace, so glad your family seems to be okay. How scary.

Stephanie, glad your brother's getting along okay. That's really awful. Especially with all the increased coverage about football and head trauma lately, you'd think the youth organization would have its act together a bit more. I think someone needs to sit that older kid down and have a "come to Jesus" meeting...

Paige, we had an earthquake in CT in July or August! I thought New England didn't get earthquakes?? Eesh. Anyway, glad everything's fine. I know they can be super scary - I grew up in CA, so most earthquakes don't really phase me, but when the CT one came around, my poor MIL almost peed her pants!

I'm way behind on work so better get crackin'. Time to haul my lazy butt into the office! Good day, everyone!

Jez, sorry I didn't mention my relief for your family.  And Steph?  Wow that's a scarey situation!

So often parents see youth sports as a way to pay for college and get their kid into the big leagues and the parents push, push, push.  We had a young man on a baseball team who's dad got ripped because Todd limited his pitch count.  They boy had awesome talent, but DH didn't want him wrecking his arm before he hit 16.  After the first season, Dad decided he'd coach his own team and pitch his son HIS way.  Sure enough, the young man ended up with a ruined arm, and daddy's dreams were ruined as well.  This boy started EVERY single game for an entire season and daddy wouldn't take him out, even when he was wild....walking batter after batter, hitting batters....we won against him when he was pitching a NO HITTER because he was so wild later in the game that he walked in the winning runs.  But, the kid had a no hitter going so daddy wouldn't take him out........yeah, way to teach your kid about life.  Of course there ARE bad coaches as well, but often it's the parents who cause the problems.

At any rate, am glad to hear your brother will be ok.

Wow, I don't think I realized just how badly I needed yesterday.....it was GREAT therapy just to end up blowing off an entire day.

I haven't read much yet this morning but I just saw Anne posted on FB that Quanah scaled the fence and is missing :(  Good vibes for her, gohomegohomegohome vibes for quanah!

    • Gold Top Dog

Candace...so happy to hear the news.  That was scary!

Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Lauren!

    Earthquake in NH!?!

Need to go read about Steph's little brother...missed that.

We did go shopping yesterday.  Rick and I were miffed at each other, so it was super fun.  Not.  Indifferent  He was pissy, I was pissy, in the truck ont he way over.  Kind of funny though...when we are actually walking in the mall...we hold hands.  How weird is that.  We are pissed at each other, yet we still want to hold on to each other.  Then, when we get back out to the truck...attitudes again.  I think its kind of funny.

Anyway, found a Whirlpool set of steam washer/dryer at Sears on sale!  Over the buget I had in mind....but we are getting it anyway.  Spent an hour, literally at the JC Penny drapery department.  They kept trying to tell me that the door panels I ordered online (and were cancelled by them) should be available, that they are a popular item.  OK, so we order again, we'll see what happens.  During this order....their registers kept declining my credit cards...both JCPenney card and Discover card.  Good grief.  There is nothing wrong with either account.  So, the sales person decided to place the order over the phone with their customer service people.  Took forever...but the order is placed.  I'm not confident that it will go through, we'll see.

Off to the grocery store before football starts.  Have a great day, everyone.

I just went into the office to do some work. Got to the front door of the building aaaaand.... couldn't figure out how to open the door. During non-work hours, you can only open the door if you have an access card. Which I do, but I could NOT figure out where to put it to get the door open. So, I went home! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I can be accepted for a Ph.D. program at a very prestigious university, but once there, I can't figure out how to open the danged door to get inside! ROFL!

Glenda, parents like that are just incomprehensible to me. Maybe it's just because I'm not a parent yet myself, but geez. How do people not get the memo that the kid's welfare is the first priority? Okay, so maybe you can be a callous ***-head and not look out for the welfare of other people's kids. But to be so inconsiderate of your own kid's well being? How stupid can you be??

LOL that IS pertty funny!  There are two main entrances and a back entrance to our building.  the main, main one is a revolving door that is shut off on weekends.  the main, side one, you need to swipe to enter.  I can't ever figure it out, so I normally use the back door. LOL.  Sorry you couldn't get in!  Maybe it was just a proximity sensor so you only wave the card and not swipe?

Steph, good to hear your brother seems to be OK.  How scary!

L Michelle, yay for weddings!  Congrats!

Paige, we had an earthquake felt here from somewhere in Canada, but I didn't know what it was until I got home and saw the news.  Pittsburgh isn't a place for quakes either.

Glenda, glad to hear you took a relaxing day to hang out. Sounds like it was perfect and what you needed.

Jackie, sorry it rained out your moonlight gardens.  Bummer, hope you get to go another time.  Did Gabby wake up Charles for golfing yet? LOL

Barbara, glad you found a washer and dryer, and hope your door covers come in this time!  I had a bit of issues with ordering thru Penney's before as well.  Ugh.

I'm throwing in a pot roast for dinner, and trying my hand at rosotto today.  wish me luck!  LOL.  Then, I have homework to do :(

What a relief- Joey just has a cervical strain! I don't think I've ever been so scared in my entire life.

Anne's new dog scaled a fence- I hope she finds him!!

Ok, I laughed out loud at that one! lol

I'm throwing in a pot roast for dinner,

    - I'm so coming over for dinner - I know where you live now! lol!!! kidding!!

Jackie, that really stinks about being rained out - I bet the Moonlight Garden Walk would have been really nice (and romantic! aaaw!!)

Barbara, I concur - it IS funny to hold hands going into the mall, but still be pissed at eachother when you get back into the truck! lol  I read somewhere that hand-holding after the "honeymoon" period of a relationship is supposed to be indicative of the strength of the bond btwn the people.  I read it around the time I realized my ex and I weren't holding hands hardly at all.... So, GOOD FOR YOU GUYS!! :D

That blows about Anne's dog - she's only had it a day, right?  Hope he's healthy and gets into safe hands.

Stephanie, I'm really, really glad your brother's injury (while clearly painful) is going to be something he can recover from without permanent damage (and I'm presuming w/out long-lasting effects??)  Poor kid, he's the one who gets hurt and has to sit out from playing football, but the other kid gets to keep playing.

I'm glad your class was rescheduled to earlier so I could meet you yesterday and you could be there for your brother!

I'm not so great on FB and I looked to find Stephanie so I could go to her page and see what's up, but I guess we aren't friends....or I'm too bad at this to find her.  Could someone give me an update?

Courtney, sometimes parents pin their failed hopes and dreams on their kids.  Unfair, wrong, yada yada yada, but it happens and when it does they seem to loose any and all common sense that they might have had.  I'm sure that they don't THINK they are pushing the kid too hard, but "helping" them to realize their dreams...sadly too often it isn't the kids dream but that of the parent.

I have a video posted on my FB wall of the flood this morning. Its gone down a bit, and its hard to understand how high the water is until about halfway when it shows a CAT tractor with only the cab showing, then the playground equipment which is only partially visible.

Steph, I'm glad your brother will be ok and that nothing is broken. I know how hard it is sitting in the stands when a loved one doesn't get up from a hit, especially the tough ones that never ham it up for attention. Some players will fake an injury everytime they're hit, to draw a penalty, but when the ones that don't, stay down, you know they're really hurt.

Once more, I want to thank everyone for their support last night. I'm feeling pretty confident now, that everyone is safe, though the ones that were left behind last night are refusing to leave today. The water is receding, but there are still dangers present. Still, I understand their feelings of not wanting to leave. Kingcome, though I only lived there for a year, is more home to me than any other place on earth, and I've lived in Dryden for about 26 years collectively.
