He has been found! I have the most awesome dog friends here. Everyone went in to action mode right away. We had all the PD's, vets and shelters notified in about five minutes flat. I took Sioux out to attract him if we spotted him, but a friend did me one better and brought her bitch in heat to my street to try to attract him back with the scent, if you can believe that, and the FB posts went viral. As it turned out, I went to let the girls out, between calls and posting notices, and Sequoyah went to the far edge of the pen as if she'd spotted something weird. Sure enough, it was my new hound, trotting back from behind the house to the pen to see his new friends. He was very glad to see them, and me, although I think he was a bit confused at the over the top greeting and the dog biscuits;-)))
Ironically, another dog from his rescue transport also disappeared and was found by his family, too. Anyone who is in rescue knows that this is not an uncommon occurrence for a newly rescued, confused dog, and is often no one's fault. There are no holes in my fence, he scaled it! We do the best we can, but you can't be everywhere all the time. The good new is that he had ID on before he even left the transport vehicle. While it isn't as good as a microchip, if it stays on, it can save a rescue from becoming permanently lost, or get them back to you. Even though he came back on his own, I was so glad I had attached that tag right away:-)
