How many times a week should I shower my dog?

I was told oly once a week because he could get sick, the thing is, I am very active and like taking the dog for runs, and he ends up stinking horribly. >_>

Frequent bathing can remove the natural skin oils.  If you must bathe more frequently to clean him up, find a mild soap free shampoo, or even a waterless (dry) shampoo.

What do you mean, stink? Smell like a dog? That's normal. Dogs don't sweat and smell like people do. They don't have sweat glands except in their feet. After exercise YOU need a shower, but your dog doesn't.

Be sure you aren't overheating your dog. It's very common in summer for dogs to suffer from heat stroke. They can die if they don't get cooled off, so be careful.

I would not bathe more than once a month! Even my cocker rarely got a shampoo more often than that because she'd get very dry skin otherwise.

    I see... >_>

So I shouldn't bath him right now since I bathed him last wednesday? And yeah, I stopped frequently to give him water. Before we started, then 1/3 through the run, then at the end, again at the car, and right now at home. And yes, I know I need to shower after runs. -_-

LOL I didn't mean "Go take a shower, you stink!" [8D] I meant, "Dogs don't sweat and get stinky the way people do because their sweat glands are different."

    LOL Make more sense?

lol, I was joking. What kind of dog do you own? It looks alot like mine, and I'm still determining what kind I own. I thought mine has husky or maybe... argh... I can't remember what it's called, starts with B.

I assumed he was hiking in mud or something, which would make him stink.  (I used to hike with my dogs and they would get muddy/stinky, and they needed weekly baths).

I wouldn't suggest bathing with shampoo more often than once every three months. Mud, let it dry and then brush it out, or rinse the dog with plain water. Stinky dog perfume (stuff they roll in), you can spot-clean, just shampoo that one area.

    Just to freak everyone out:

I NEVER washed Stevie. He never needed it. He was the cleanest dog I ever had.

Sofia has never been washed either. She washes herself, most dogs do.

I agree, brush out the dirt. If your dog lives in a dusty backyard and is always dirty, then you have to change the backyard, not wash the dog, just as a for instance. I have always had dogs who kept themselves clean. Sofia's sister is in this predicament, but I think my son will have a better yard for Athena at his new house.

The only dog I washed was my cocker, because stuff stuck to her so bad, and because she kept getting in the shower with me. [:D]

I wash Emma twice a week, at a minimum.

She has horrible skin allergies. I have to keep the allergens OFF of her. Some weeks, she's washed every day. She gets in the shower with me every day, for a good rinse.

Of course, Teenie rarely ever gets washed. Today, they ALL got washed (including my mom's dog, Toby) b/c we had a few fleas, and I had a new bottle of Buddy Wash.

Hey Jeano, you never answered my question, what kind of dog do you own? It looks a lot like mine only mine is black around the eyes and his fur is very white. Anywho, He lives indoors with me, but, when I take him out, he looks to get dirty. I just finished playing with him outside, now he is chilling indoors. I threw frisbees and chased him around the yard and then I would purposely run from him and we had fun. >_>  AHEM... *clears throat* Anyway... >_>

Sorry there, I missed that question.

Sofia is half husky, quarter Norwegian elkhound and quarter coyote. She's about 45 lbs, a perfect medium-sized dog.
