What to feed my pups?

    What to feed my pups?

I have three dogs: an 11 year old terrier mix, an 11 year old greyhound mix, and a very stomach sensitive 7 year old Australian Cattledog/Australian Shepherd mix.

Should I be feeding them all senior food?  What kind of food (what brand) would be best?  I have tried many different kinds over the years, but my dogs are older and I want something healthy for them.  I have heard that corn isn't the best ingredient, but it seems to be in all of the foods I have looked at.  Could someone please give me some advice on what some of the better dog foods are?

    Thanks so much! [:)]

OK well, I bought something called Nutro Max.  It's supposed to be all natural.  Has anyone heard of this or use this?  Is it good?

Nutro Max has corn it in.  Corn Gluten Meal.

Do you have any small, privately owned pet stores near you?  Those ones sell the best stuff usually.  Canidae, Eagle Pack Holistic, Innova, Innova EVO, Nature's Variety, Timberwolf Organics, Natural Balance.

PetCo also sells Natural Balance.  >^_^<

As Astra said, small specialty shops are the way to go.  I *LOVE* shopping there, they have the natural dog treats ... the cool collars, etc.  Love 'em! :)  Anyway, as she said most dog foods have corn/wheat and you're right those are actually allergins to dogs.

I feed my dogs Solid Gold, having switched from Natural Balance, as the Vitamin K supplement they use in that and most grocery brand dog foods, is basically worthless (as reported by someone with a lot of canine nutrition, maybe someone who stops by has the link?)

Innova, Innova Evo are really great foods, make sure you don't over feed those, though. Canidae, Eagle Pack Hollistic, Solid Gold are all great foods.  It's picking the one that your dogs like the best.  I've tried most and finally settled on SG.  Usually the boutique dog stores will have sample sizes for cheap or free for you to see which your dog likes best.  :)

You may also look into some RAW feeding.  I supplement my dogs with RMB (raw meaty bones) about 3 days a week for their teeth and everything else.  They *LOVE* this special treat!  But a lot of people here feed their dogs RAW or homecooked 7 days a week though.

Welcome aboard!  I learned everything I said above here at idog, this is a great place!

I feed Solid Gold Wolf Cub formula mixed with Blue Buffalo Lamb and Rice adult or Fish and Rice adult.  The Blue Buffalo has gotten good reviews and is available through PetSmart.  The Solid Gold I have to go on a 30 mile journey to get, but it's worth it because of his sensitivity to poultry.
