Sunday MC

Hmmmm, and now it's cloudy and windy.  I really hope that it doesn't decide to rain again since DS is supposed to sleep in the tent tonight.  And, we're planning to bbq and eat at the picnic table.  Guess we can always pull the table further under the awning.....

    The forum is quiet today....

I haven't been able to read all the posts yet but good luck with the apartment cleaning!! It always sucks when you have to deal with issues you didn't cause. =(

I have a 5-7 page paper that I haven't started writing due at midnight..plus I have to work at 9pm. Apparently my teachers think the 3 day weekend is for everyone (but since I had to work Thursday too, it's an even shorter weekend than usual). I started freaking out so I decided to use the forum to distract myself, lol. Apparently I distracted myself too well though... so back to work. =-(

Then I hit Best Buy - and took Abbie in with me for some training.

Were you able to actually take her in with you? That would be very cool. I'm soooo excited for your trip. Have a great time.

I woke up feeling super funky. A bit of a hangover from my stupidity yesterday and too much time spent thinking of what I can do to feel excited about something again. Fortunately, we had a lot to do and once I got up and moving, I felt much better. We went to the gym, then Frys and then grocery shopping. Came home and I made a big breakfast and now DH is working on his bike and I'm ready to chill out with the Sunday paper. I did some yardwork yesterday afternoon and plan to do some more today. We took out a couple of Crepe Myrtle bushes over a year ago and planted rose bushes. We must not have gotten all the roots of the Crepe Myrtle out, so they are overtaking the rose bushes and it is not a pretty picture. The Crepe Myrtle is purple and rose bush is salmon Ick!

Paige - I hope the wedding goes well and you're able to have a good time. Maybe that's why so many weddings have open bars. It's hard to have a bad time when there's a lot of free booze.

Well.....poop!  Mike isn't coming until tomorrow.  Crud.

I know he had a life up there for a lot of years, and that a lot of people want some of his time, but, gee whiz!!  I mean I DID deal with almost 30 hours worth of labor and a fair amount of discomfort........I ought to rate too!

    Whine over!

whew Bugsy & I were up at 5:30 - becoming too regular but he has to poop.  I've delayed dinner for him by an hour for the last week and he is still getting up at 5:30 or as soon as one of us moves.

But hey he picked a fine day to wake me up - it was 53* this morning - I mean glorious!  Especially considering that Friday was 99*.

So after a nice big breakfast he & I headed to a state park about 40 miles from here and did a fairly strenuous hike. A really nice hike but longer and with more variance in elevation than I expected AND very rocky trail at times.  Its the first hike we've done in over a year due to the whole knee issue.  He's exhausted but I don't see him limping, fingers crossed.

Got back did some cleaning, laundry, had a brief nap and am now catching up on things

Paige I hope all is going well, Julie have an awesome, safe trip. Count me in as jealous!

Looking forward to a nice dinner and I might throw together a peach/blueberry cobbler

Cathy - yeah, most of the stores near me are pretty dog friendly. We have a huge dog community, complete with a yahoo e-group. The rescue groups are really active and most stores allow you to bring a dog in to do some training and socialization if you ask.

If I take Neiko, I put his SAR vest on (secret santa gift from last year btw! idoggers are so awesome) and don't have to ask (although sometimes I do, just to be polite). As a working dog in training, he's allowed anywhere a k-9 can go.

I've been shampooing the carpets and my back is killing me. lol  I have a terrible habit of bending over instead of standing up straight while I push the machine and my back suffers.  Friday night I woke up with the worst cramp in my right calf.  I was whimpering in pain it hurt so much.  My calf is still sore, like I pulled a muscle. ouchie  I feel a little old today. :(

Gabby and the cat had a ridicuously funny encounter earlier. She's learning that the cat rules all dogs. lol

It wasn't as cool this morning as yesterday but still a nice morning.  We had a few inches of rain last week and the grass is greening up so nicely.

I better get moving again before I rust in this position in my desk chair. lol

Well I know that feeling all too well

If you have a really bad cramp it will feel sore for a while - good news is it means you've got lots of healthy muscle in there so you aren't old Stick out tongue  Increase your potassium for a few days and you'll likely feel better.  I recommend low sodium V8 and hey put some vodka in if you like!

hmmmmmmmmm think i am off to make a bloody mary

I've got the charcoal grill heating up right now to cook some chicken. Last night, it was pork spare ribs, tomorrow it will be brisket, smoked the old fashioned way.

I had an absolute blast today. I found a driving range about 20 miles from the house, in Calera, Ok. It was either that or drive to Richardson, Tx., which is farther which much more traffic.

Anyway, I bought a bucket of balls and started swinging, with mixed results. I could get air to 150 yds and roll to 200 on some. But I had a nasty, wicked slice (ball curves to the right.) Then I finally remembered what I read about the grip. You should see at least one knuckle, maybe two on your left hand. I tried that and shot a straight line drive of 150 with a 3 wood. Then, the operator of the range corrected me on one thing. I was swaying through the stroke. He had me put my feet together, which stops the sway and allows you to only rotate your upper body. I sailed 200 yds straight on a 3 wood, averaging 150 to 175. 150 yds on a 8 iron.

I went through two buckets of 95 balls. But I learned to pace myself in the second bucket. My 1 wood is problematic but I will work through that and I am hitting at least 200 yds with that, sometimes sailing over 200 yds and rolling to 250.

I love 3-day weekends.  Yesterday, I cleaned the house and did laundry.  Then I went to the county fair.  I must be older, some of the rides were more scary then exciting.  I did them anyway though :D.

Today, I cleaned the car (which needed it), and hung out with the dogs in this gorgeous weather we've been having.

Tomorrow, I have an art project for work to work on (it's not really 'work' related, but it's a competition, and there are prizes, so I'm a little rabid about it).  Then all the dogs are getting groomed and my personal ones are getting dyed new colors.  Hehehehe, I'm so mean.  They should look adorable though.  I'll try to get pictures.

Goose went to Home Depot today for her weekend outing.  Three people asked if she was a Sharpei. But, at least she got scritches :)

Although my dogs ran across the street TWICE today, (my uncle kept letting them out accidentally- which normally would not be a problem, but my neighbors have a new puppy and no fence), they did really good once they got there. No jumping on the humans, they didn't corner the puppy, they just sniffed him when they could and peed on everything when they couldn't, lol. So..kind of a bright side. It was annoying though because I kept getting the "why don't you whip their butt" speech...oh and then my mom suggested a shock collar. After reminding her that one of my boys has a HOLE in his tongue from an electrical shock and there's no way I would subject him to that..I told her I might as well just taser them. Which made them all gasp like it was something awful when really I don't see the difference between the two. No offense if yall use a shock collar.

Anyways, I finally finished my paper with like 20 minutes to go and uh.. not so great. Also a little worried about the assignment I turned in earlier... Luckily, I have some leeway..=-s

It sounds like it was a nice relaxing day for almost everyone else though so hopefully that continues through the week =)

Um... you know that in MOST states, this isn't true? A SAR dog- especially a SAR dog in training- doesn't have access rights like a service dog or service dog in trainings. Most places won't mess with a vested dog, but if it's against the law, it's tacky to use the vest that way.

    • Gold Top Dog

The law in MI states that SAR dogs - even those that are volunteers are considered working K-9s and have the same rights as police k-9s. It's a felony to cause harm to or interfere with a SAR dog performing its work (including training).

But thanks for calling me Tacky!

P.S. I take our SAR work very seriously and am very passionate about it.  I find your post pretty offensive.

I wasn't aware your dog was operational- I thought Neiko was still in training?
