Isn't it neat when you find just what you need? Congrats!
We just went through something similiar. We had this tiny little farm that was worth a bunch, in an area that was quickly going from farm to bedroom community ("I moved to the country for the country lifestyle, now please move your sheep somewhere else because they stink"). We found this rental farm in a wonderful farm community, closer to where Patrick wants to work eventually, beautiful pastures and two ponds - the rent is less than the mortgage on the old place, and it's six times as big, and the house is twice the size and in much better shape.
Now we just needed to sell the old place. We were fixing it up to put it on the market, and while we were doing that we put signs on the road with a sort of ha-ha asking price. Within two weeks, we had three people competing to buy it at around that price, AS IS - wow!
The people who we signed with then asked us to rent until the closing date - for twice what our rent here is. And help us move. Like, pack and everything. I'm starting to think at this point - oilfield? Gold? How'd we rate all this?
We are waiting on the closing date now and feeling SO blessed!
