When you look at a Puerto Rico brochure what do you see? They always show some gorgeous beach full of smiling people. What they dont show is what is in the parking lots and less populated areas of the beach. The stray dogs that make up about 30% of the beach population.
The bitches (who still being puppies themselves) that have already had 2 or more litters and are expecting another. The beat up, mange ridden dogs that can barely stand up.
If they showed those things on the brochures im sure they would get a lot less tourists. I am by no means trying to insult my island (I was born here but lived my whole live in upper New York) this is an island full of helpful amazing people.
But there concepts on dogs is horrible. A dog here is one of the lowest animals. When I tell people my dogs are kept inside they always give me a weird look. When I tell them my Shih Tzu slept in bed with me they look like they want to die!
There is one dog in particular that gives me chills. It is this big furry mutt that lives close to where I work. This dog was hit by a car a long time ago and one of its back legs was terribly injured. This dogs leg healed up, but below the (knee) the botton part of the leg is facing backward! I have tried different animal shelters and they have told me that they are private organization and that I need to call Emergency MAnagment to come pick up the dog. I know they are not equipped to handle this type of thing and while I know they will put this dog down I want it to be done Humanely.
Does anyone have an idea of where I could call to get this dog picked up? I hate the thought of any animal being PTS but I cant bear seeing him, it kind of makes me hate the human race (well some of them)
