ROTTWEILER! I honestly cannot imagine not having one. He is just the greatest dog in all aspects.

I am really only set on owning two other breeds at this point: 1. Whippet

    2. Staffordshire Bull Terrier (of course I have to move somewhere that allows them first!)

Other breeds I seriously consider owning are: 1. Bullmastiffs 2. Bernese Mountain Dogs 3. Great Pyrenees 4. English Mastiffs 5. Saint Bernards 6. Daschunds

Geee, can you tell I like large dogs just a bit??? Sheesh.

Honestly, I love my beagle to death, but I don't think that I will ever have another beagle. The vocal thing drives me nuts some days. Who knows though....they are so darned adorable, it's hard to resist.

    1. German shorthaired pointer
    2. Weimaraner
    3. Ridgeback
    4. Pointer
    5. Vizsla

a Bugsy Wink  I am totally OK with a mix that includes one of the above.

I love dobies and danes but the health issues are terrifying to me. I am totally completely infatuated with GSP's and bird dogs in general.  I want a short-haired, athletic, high-energy dog preferably 50lbs+

    1. APBT
    2. Doberman (If I were to get one... it would probably be from a breeder, because I'm just terrified of all their health issues)
    3. GSD ( WORKING lines. I would never want a show GSD)
    4. Belgian Malinois
    5. I can't think of another purebred that (realistically) I would seek to own one day. I love Irish Wolfhounds, ever since I met one in person. And I would LOVE to have one. But, short lifespans and numerous health issues are not something I'd want. If I were to get one, I'd do a LOT of searching to find the best breeder to get the healthiest one possible.

For me to actually BUY a dog from a breeder, I would have to be in a situation where I know I would be doing SOMETHING with that dog (schutzhund, obedience, agility, etc). Until then, I'll stick with rescue (mixed breed, or purebred).

Well, what's realisict for me and what's realistict for hubby is a little different.  LOL  Both of us agree on:

    Labradors

    Goldens

    Siberians

That's really all my husband would seriously consider (other than mixes).

I'd love to have another Norwegian Elkhound some day, as well as a PP Chinese Crested, Rottweiler and Doberman.

    1. Bearded Collie - My dream dog.  Ok so I'm a bit selfish and want a dog with hair as long and thick as mine but the herding qualities and bouncy personality is also a great added bonus.  They are also not as common in the pet market so they are not in high demand like other herders. The people I have met who own/breed them have formed a really nice community, I would not mind joining that group.

    2. Border Collie- I love the challenge of working with a dog who is almost smarter then I am.

    3. Great Pyrenees – I love the size and the overall laid back, on the guard attitude.  A true working dog that has a lot of love to give.

    4. Sheltie- This would be a small dog for me but I would love it all the same.  I just adore the look and the personality.  Overall I could see this dog being a good family dog for a calm home.

    5. Great Dane – Same reason for the Great Pyrenees but with a different twist in behavior and coat.

So first off, I want a good herding/agility dog that I can have some fun with and the dog will enjoy the activity as well.  I want a dog that can get me off my butt and outside where we can challenge each other.  As for the large dogs, I have always wanted an extra-large dog.  I’m a rather short person so I want a dog that can make me feel strong and a dog that has a lot of love to give back.  I really enjoy working with large dogs and their easy-going attitudes.

    1. Leonberger
    2. Pug
    3. Tibetan Spaniel
    4. Tibetan Mastiff
    5. Anatolian Shepherd

Akitas would also be on the list but for the "realistic" aspect. I'd have to wait til the kids leave home and my desire for a multi dog household departs for that to happen!

I always hear about herders, and they are such great dogs.... super sweet and, this is going to sound wrong, but so easy!!

*snort* Sooo Not easy! LOL!  I have to be 3 steps ahead of Maze. It's all the training that makes the dog look easy. Wink

    Ok.. So my list.. Hmmm.....

    1) Australian Kelpie

    2) JRT I'll never be without one now.

    3)Labs

    4) Doberman

    5) GSD

I love the high drive and intensity of these breeds. I may own a BC one day. But I'm not to sure about that. We'll see..

Now Alex's list is a wee bit different... LOL

    1) Great Dane

    2) Bull Mastiff

    3) Beagle

    4) Basset Hound

    5) A mix of the first two....

    #1 - Doberman

The rest in no particular order

    • Whippet (male only for now)
    • APBT or AmStaff
    • Weim (only from good stock)

I'd consider these, but not sure if I'd end up living with one:

    • French Bulldog or Boston Terrier
    • Black & Tan Coonhound, or Plott or Redbone... (I'd have to live in a special place for that... with ear plugs.)

Or just wait til you are old and deaf and then you won't hear the hound OR your neighbors complaining. Old people can do whatever the heck they want. I can't wait!

My last family Dobe was actually a Bluetick Coonhound/Dobe mix...and I love hounds because of him.  BARROOOOOOOO!!!!  Love it!  Not going to be my Obedience competitors, but good companions and hopefully trackers.

    Mine changes quite a bit.

    Chinese crested

    Chihuahua

    Great Dane

    Austrailian Shepherd

    Ibizan Hound

    Standard Xolo

Yeah, it's a bit all over the place, :), and there may be an extra.

I love this thread, it lets me dream :)

I, too, like to try new breeds.  I have never had a mutt before, and if I came across the right one, I"d adopt it.  Otherwise purebreds I go with reputable breeders...

    1. Toy poodle

    2. Bichon (only one at a time instead of multiples)

    3. Portuguese Water Dog (wavy!)

    4. Bernese Mtn Dog

    5. Leonberger

ALthough, my list changes frequently :)

    • Gold Top Dog

     1. Irish Setter

     2. Weimaraner

    3. Dogue De Bordeaux

    4. Landseer Newfoundland

    5. Pit Bull (only when Samantha is out of the house and on her own, JJ's rule Embarrassed)

    • Gold Top Dog

I will NEVER be without an aussie again :), so clearly - that's #1

2- dobie (but like most of you, the health issues scare me!)

3 - APBT - working in rescue, you just can't help but love them. I know I wont own one for a long time though, trying to rent with a pitty just doesn't happen often!

4 - toller - this is probably the ONLY retriever I would consider owning!

    5 - other than that - I love mutts. :)
