    Top 5 Breeds You'd Own

What are the top 5 breeds you'd *realistically* own?

    GO!

    Mine are:

    1. Labrador Retriever, black (always my heart breed)
    2. Golden Retriever
    3. Chessie
    4. ESS (grew up with a few; my Dads bird hunting dogs)
    5. GSD

Might I add I prefer the field and working lines of the above mentioned breeds.

I will always own a Lab, I just completely am in love with the breed. And even though I own 2 American Cockers, never again! They're excellent little dogs, I really love them, but the grooming sucks. Especially since I have 2 Cockers that love to swim and roll in dirt... or something worse!

My DH wants a Golden or a Corgi someday. He really loves both breeds and Labs and that's about it for him for dog breeds.

    1.  A herder -- cos I love them.  collie, border collie, sheltie, corgi (my least favorite), Aussie shepherd, or any mix

    2.  Tibetian spaniel -- David's not fond of the attitude of the breed.

    3.  I like little dogs -- pom, peke, paps ... don't really care.

    4.  Pugs -- the more I know Tink the more I know she's unusual, but they DO crack me up.

    5.  Mixes -- I'm truly *not* a breedist.  I know that's anathema to most folks on here but I'm really not into breeds, shows or that kind of stuff.  I just like dogs.  But I like to get to know the individual "dog" -- more than the breed.

We tend to always get something different than we've had before because for us part of the joy is learning what makes this dog's breed 'tick'.  We nearly didn't take Billy cos he was a cocker (and Muffin the Intrepid was a cocker) -- we like them ... just "been there done that".  I'll never be stuck on a breed.  It's just not 'me'.

That said -- I probably won't do any hound again ... the vocal part of them makes me nuts.  Whine, talk, etc. -- it's all at the wrong pitch for me.

     1. Chows (won't be without one or, preferably, two)

    2.Poodles (any size)

Those are really the breeds we want to live with

if for some reason I could not have a Chow (for whatever horrible reason that could possibly be) , I'd consider a Standard Schnauzer.  But, we're pretty set on our breeds

    • Gold Top Dog
    1. Doberman Pinscher
    2. Doberman Pinscher
    3. Doberman Pinscher

Oh, I'll bet that you were looking for 5 DIFFERENT breeds.  Stick out tongue

    1. Doberman Pinscher
    2. Belgian Malinois
    3. German Shorthaired Pointer
    4. Weimaraner
    5. Dachshund

Obviously one of my breeds are not like the others...Tongue Tied

     I love this game :)

Amanda -- good choices!! (ahem) hehehe

    1. Weimaraner (of course :)
    2. Standard Poodle -- I have a fascination with them!
    3. JRT/PRT
    4. Doberman (I wish there weren't so many serious health issues and it'd be #1 or #2!)
    5. Dalmatian (Again, I wish there weren't so many serious health issues.... really a shame.)
I always hear about herders, and they are such great dogs.... super sweet and, this is going to sound wrong, but so easy!! Compared to my breeds, Weims and JRT-mix.... I play with an Aussie or BC and always wonder "WHY DON'T I HAVE ONE OF THESE!!!???" ... but, I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment!

Honestly I'll never own anything but GSDs now.  I have an interest in a few other working breeds but can't see myself getting one, they're all so different.

    Realistically?

For Schutzhund: German Shepherd, that's about it. If someone were to give me a good Malinois, I'll take it but I don't think I am going to go out looking for one.

For Agility: Border Collie, Jack Russell, Australian Cattle Dog

    For Pet: Cardigan Welsh Corgi!!!!!

    4) Great Dane

    5) Australian Shepherd

    3. Border Collie

    4. Doberman

    5. Belgium Malinois (Okay that one might be a little unrealistic.  Would really have to find the right breeder who could place the right dog with me)
